35 Hollywood Actors Join Waitlist To Replace Maria Ressa As Dual Citizen

HOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles, Los Angeles Bureau) – Previously, we reported that a British national wants to have Rappler CEO Maria Ressa’s Filipino citizenship should an online petition asking the government to revoke her dual citizenship succeeds. To date, some 40,000 netizens have signed the petition.

Now, some 35 Hollywood actors and celebrities with Filipino heritage have added their names to the waitlist. They include singers Bruno Mars, Apl.De.Ap, Enrique Iglesias and Nicole Scherzinger, and actors Rob Schneider, Lou Diamond Phillips, Darren Criss, Tia Carrere and Tamlyn Tomita.

Who ever thought that Ressa’s dual citizenship was such a prized commodity?

Donald Trump Joins Call To Revoke Maria Ressa’s Dual Citizenship

268e4cbc-d9c6-4af1-986f-7a086bedb532WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – When it rains it pours! Rappler CEO Maria Ressa is not only facing the wrath of Filipinos; U.S. President Donald Trump has joined in the call to have her dual citizenship revoked.

Some 46,000 Filipino netizens (and counting) have signed an online petition asking the Philippines Department of Justice to look into Ressa’s activities which may be in violation of her oath of allegiance when she applied for dual citizenship.

But there’s a catch: Trump is not Filipino so he has no right to petition the Philippine government to revoke Ressa’s Filipino citizenship.

Ressa, however, is also a U.S. citizen, so Trump has now ordered his Department of Justice to look into stripping her of her American citizenship.

When asked by The Adobo Chronicles for his motivation in wanting to revoke Ressa’s U.S. citizenship, Trump said, “You know how I hate fake news, especially CNN, and Ressa used to be a CNN correspondent. Once a CNN employee, always a CNN employee.”

Trump added that his move is also part of his ongoing campaign to rid the United States of non-white immigrants and naturalized citizens. “I will not only build a wall, I will also go after purveyors of fake news, especially if they are not natural-born citizens.”

Rappler’s Maria Ressa Petitions U.S. Government To Revoke Adobo Chronicles’ Patent

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth.

After learning that a petition has been launched by The Adobo Chronicles’ publisher urging the Philippine Department of Justice to revoke the dual citizenship of Maria Ressa for alleged violation of the Constitution and Philippine laws, the CEO of Rappler has come up with her own petition.

She is petitioning the U.S. Patent  and Trademark Office (USPTO) to revoke the patent issued to The Adobo Chronicles.

In a statement published on the Rappler website, Ressa said the name “adobo” cannot be  used by California-based satire news site because it is not original.  “Adobo has been used for hundreds of years by Filipinos as the name for what is considered their national dish — pork or chicken adobo,” she said. “Why can’t the satire site use a more original and creative name like “Rappler?”

Ressa’s petition has garnered two likes so far — that would be herself and Raplerette Pia Rañada.

In contrast the petition to revoke Ressa’s dual citizenship has collected close to 15,000 signatures, and counting. Signatures are still being accepted here:
