Quezon City, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – President Aquino, in a highly-emotional SONA (State of the Nation Address) , challenged the Filipino people to begin looking beyond his administration and decide who will continue – or stop – his reform and transformation agenda in 2016.

After listing achievements made possible by continuing reforms of his administration in the past four years, Aquino concluded his speech with a challenge to the people to make sure they continue to reap the fruits of these reforms by choosing the right leader to succeed him.

“We know who is going to a stop my reforms,” Aquino said as he looked directly into the eyes of Vice President Jejomar Binay. “And we know who will continue my reforms,” he said, this time looking directly into the eyes of his sister, television host Kris Aquino who was seated at the VIP gallery.  At that point, television cameras caught the presidential sister bursting into tears, while the Vice President excused himself for a bathroom break.

Interviewed by The Adobo Chronicles after the SONA, Kris said she could not hold back her tears. “They were tears of joy — joy over the great confidence that my brother has put on me to continue his daang matuwid (the right path), this administration’s rallying cry and mantra.”

In a lighter moment during the interview, Kris was asked what nickname she would like to be called when she becomes president. “In the family tradition where my dad was called Ninoy and my brother NoyNoy, I would love to be called KringKring,” she said, this time with a big smile on her face.

100 MILLIONTH FILIPINO HAS BEEN BORN, LAWSUITS POUR IN

imageManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – At 12:35 a.m., July 17, baby Chonalyn (some media outlets spelled it as ‘Jennalyn’) was born at a local hospital in Manila, making her the 100 Millionth Filipino.

But there is a big problem. Ninety nine other babies were born at exactly the same time at other hospitals and homes all over the country, and all parents want to claim the historic, official title for their newly-borns.

As a result, the parents have hired personal attorneys and are suing the Commision on Population (POPCOM) and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to lay claim to the much-sought after title.

According to one lawsuit, “the title of 100 Millionth Filipino comes not only with honor and prestige, but the promise of popularity and wealth for the child.” Given what’s stake in the official title, the lawsuits may take months or even years to resolve and may eventually find their way to the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, baby Chonalyn received a prize of 5,000 pesos worth of in-kind goods.  The cost to her parents for the hospital delivery: 30,000 pesos. Had it been through C-section, it would have cost them twice as much.

It’s always more fun in the Philippines!

WHY MICHELLE BACHMANN IS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT

Michelle Bachmann

Minneapolis, Minnesota (The Adobo Chronicles) – Michelle Bachmann makes no secret about her penchant for being called ‘Madam,’ as in Madam Representative. She is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Minnesota’s 6th district.

Her next career goal is to be called Madam President.

Last week, Bachmann publicly announced her intention to seek the Republican nomination for president in 2016.

If she loses in the contest, she has a backup plan: to establish a high-class brothel in Minneapolis, where, of course, as owner, she’d be called madam.

The problem is, prostitution is illegal in Minnesota, so she needs to work with state legislators to codify the world’s oldest profession in her state where carrying guns in public is legal, with permit.

Now that shouldn’t be such a difficult thing to do for a popular career woman and politician like Bachmann. All she needs to do is to partner with  former Minnesota Governor  Jesse Ventura, many  political pundits say.
