CHANGE IN OSCAR AWARDS VENUE ANNOUNCED

oscarniteHollywood, California – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that the 2014 Oscar Awards Night has been moved to a new venue.  And it is not in Hollywood, but in the Philippines.  In an email alert to members of the Hollywood Press Association, the Academy said that because of the importance of the red carpet ceremonies which precede the handing out of the Oscar statuettes to the best of the best in the film industry, it needed to find a venue that can host the all-important “who are you wearing?” pre-festivities. And host it well. The Academy also wanted an international group of fashion police since it’s tired of the aging Joan Rivers and the “E!” anchors and reporters.

Members of the Academy board made the decision after viewing the State of the Nation Address (SONA) by Philippine President Noynoy Aquino at the Batasang Pambansa (National Assembly building) last Monday.  The almost two-hour speech (the equivalent of the U.S. State of the Union Address), was preceded by the usual fashion parade of politicians, their spouses and other invited celebrities and guests.  This year’s SONA red carpet was extremely sensational as attendees donned the best creations of the country’s top designers, jewelers and shoemakers.  Designs ranged from flowing ternos (the national dress) and hand-painted barong tagalogs (the national male formal attire) to rainbow-colored, ethnic-inspired gowns and floor-length dangling earrings.fashionista

The morning after front page coverage of all the major dailies highlighted the fashion extravaganza while relegating the text of  Aquino’s speech to their B-2 sections.

“The Philippines sure knows how to stage an elaborate red carpet,” the Academy noted, adding that the change in venue from Hollywood to Quezon City, will ensure a billion or more worldwide viewers of the televised Oscar ceremonies.

FOX ANNOUNCES NEW REALITY SHOW “THE FACE”

Update: Facing the threat of a potential lawsuit, FOX just announced it was changing the name of the show to “Face It,” because a similar reality show on the Oxygen Network already has that title. The Oxygen show, produced by model Naomi Campbell, is a modeling competition where contestants compete to be “the face” of a national brand.

New York — Jealous of NBC’s highly successful reality TV show, “The Voice,” FOX network today announced the launch of a new reality show called “The Face.”

Based largely on the same concept as “The Voice,” the new FOX series is a beauty competition that starts  with “blind auditions.”  Celebrity judges will be sitting on chairs facing the audience. Contestants will come on stage and deliver a 30-second speech.  Judges will then try to imagine how the contestants look like totally based on their speech and choose or not to choose to press their chair buttons that will turn their chairs around.

Contestants who get a vote or several votes from the judges will then choose which of the judges will coach them on beauty, poise and personality going into the public voting stage of the show. Twelve finalists will be chosen to face public voting  and elimination via phone or text.

The celebrity judges are Donald Trump, owner of the Miss Universe Pageant Corporation; Tyra Banks, producer of the TV show, “America’s Top Model;” CNN Anchor Anderson Cooper; and  Television host Ellen Degeneres.

Asked what viewers will take away from this reality show, FOX said, “The window to one’s beauty – both external and internal — is the mouth.”

POPULAR NEW TELESERYE “MY HUSBAND’S LOVER” CANCELLED!

imageManila – It was just a matter of time before the influential Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines poked its ugly head into the growing popularity of “My Husband’s Lover,” a new TV series that tackles the bold theme of homosexuality.

GMA 7 quickly moved to cling to the ratings momentum created by the cancelled series by replacing it with a new show which reportedly has the full blessing of the Catholic Bishops.  The new show is titled, “My Father’s Lover.”
