Duterte Orders Closure of Baguio City For Six Months

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Baguio Bureau) – President Rodrigo Duterte has had it with Baguio City’s evironmental and other problems. He has ordered the closure of the Philippines’ Summer Capital for six months.

This after the Department  of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) announced on Saturday, June 29, that it has ordered the closure of the Irisan open dumpsite in Baguio City. This has prompted garbage collectors to  inform city residents that they will no longer be collecting biodegradable trash.

”I cannot allow the site of my (Presidential)  Summer Mansion House to be in a stinking city,” Duterte said.

Duterte had previously closed Boracay island for rehabilition, with great success. He expects to do the same for Baguio.

Philippines Will Not Go To War With China Over Giant Clams, But As For Canada…

DF953231-EDE3-41F1-9F24-01C81F60E8B2MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippines will not go to war with China over giant clams (illegally fished out by the Chinese from Scarborough Shoal in the West Philippine Sea), but is prepared to declare war on Canada over its trash shipment that’s been stinking for many years now  in Manila.

President Rodrigo Duterte warned Canada that if it does not take back its containers of trash shipped to the Philippines under the guise of being recyclable plastic, he is prepared  to load the trash on a boat and personally dump it back on Canadian soil.

Duterte knows how to pick his battles. The Philippines may not be a match to China in terms of military might, but as for Canada? “Kaya natin yan,” he declared, suggesting the Philippines can easily win a war against Canada.

Duterte’s statement could all be rubbish, but Canada can’t say it wasn’t warned!

Why Rappler Reporter Was Barred From Covering Tuberculosis Prevention Event In Malacañang

36002BAC-74A7-46C3-8851-42313199DC9AMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Once again, Rappler has been barred from covering an event at Malacañang, this time the launch of a government initiative to end tuberculosis, where President Rodrigo Duterte will be in attendance.

Like clockwork, Rappler immediately cried foul and “suppression of Press Freedom.”

But Malacañang and the Department of Health today issued a statement on the real reason the Rappler reporter was not issued accreditation to cover the event.

Tuberculosis is a highly contagious bacterial infection that can quickly spread if not caught, isolated, and treated early. It is an airborne disease, and can be caught by breathing in the air that an infected person has contaminated through breathing or coughing,” the statement said.

It continued:

”Since this is a TB prevention event, we wanted to make sure that all in attendance would be free of the bacteria and prevent them from infecting others, including the President. We therefore required attendees and members of the news media to submit a health clearance, showing  a negative TB test.”

”The Rappler reporter failed to submit the required clearance, hence she was barred from covering the Malacañang event.”

Moral of the story: Press Freedom is not a substitute for a health clearance.
