STARBUCKS’ RESPONSE TO SPOKANE’S SHIRTLESS MALE BARISTAS

imageSeattle, Washington – No one messes with Starbucks, not even Hot Cup Of Joe’s, the coffee shop which opened on Valentine’s Day in Spokane, featuring shirtless male baristas.

Ever heard of  bottomless mimosas or bottomless margaritas? Well, Starbucks will soon introduce its bottomless baristas – male and female both. The Seattle-based coffee company said this is in response to the Spokane coffee shop’s shirtless baristas. Starbucks will open its first bottomless coffee shop in Seattle later this month, and it has nothing to do with bottomless coffee. Rather, the coffee shop will employ male and female baristas who will wear top clothing, but not bottoms.

If the new “experiment” is well-received, Starbucks said it will  ask its franchise stores in the U.S. and across the globe to convert to bottomless coffee shops. However, Starbucks will authorize only one bottomless coffee shop per town or city, and the franchise stores will have to apply to be selected through a rigorous competitive bidding process.

Manila, Philippines – Benjamin Franklin once said, “there are only two things certain in life: death and taxes.”  The Philippines’ tax collector-in-chief is making sure the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) lives up to its name.

BIR Commissioner Kim Henares has confirmed reports that she has ordered Michael Christian Martinez, the lone Filipino athlete who competed in the Sochi Winter Olympics, to be placed on the agency’s “watch list.”  Although the 17 year-old figure skater did not win any medal in the skating competitions, Henares said that Martinez’s increasing popularity in the Philippines and abroad will certainly result in multi-million peso offers from commercial companies for product endorsements and advertisements. “We just want to make sure that the BIR will not miss out on taxes due from Martinez’s potential earnings, so we will be watching very closely,” Henares said.image13.jpg

This is not the first time that the BIR has gone after high-profile cases.   It has gone after the earnings of world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao as well as the prize money and recording contract income of Rose Fostanes, the Filipino caregiver in Tel Aviv who recently won the top prize in the reality TV show, X Factor Israel.

“We would have preferred Michael to win the Olympic gold medal because gold commands a very high price in the stock market right now, but there’s always that  possibility in 2018,” Henares told reporters.

RUSSIA SUSPENDS VISA REQUIREMENTS, SUBSIDIZES AIRFARE AND GIVES AWAY FREE OLYMPIC TICKETS

imageSochi, Russia – Russia is trying hard to put its best foot forward in hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics, but scenes showing empty seats at the Iceberg Skating Palace and other venues are causing a big headache for President Vladimir Putin and Russian Olympic officials.

In an emergency meeting held at the Kremlin, the Russian government has decided to suspend all travel visa requirements as well as give away Olympic venue tickets in order to fill the empty seats. It is also considering subsidizing airfares from anywhere in the world to Sochi for the next two weeks.image13.jpg

The Putin government has also reportedly paid NBC and other media companies covering the winter games to refrain from photographing or aiming their television cameras at the empty seats during all scheduled events.
