PHILIPPINE VP JOJO BINAY WITHDRAWS FROM PRESIDENTIAL RACE, MAKES WAY FOR WIFE ELENITA

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Vice President Jejomar Binay can’t handle the truth that he is being beaten by women in the race for Philippine President. So he has decided to withdraw his declared candididacy.

Recent national polls show that Senators Grace Poe and Miriam Defensor-Santiago are the two top choices for president among likely voters. (Santiago officially announced her candidacy this week after her doctors declared her ‘cancer-free.’ Her stage 4 lung cancer prompted her to go on leave from the Senate and to hold off on her presidential quest).

“As a man, husband and father, I will not allow women to beat me in the elections or any competition for that matter,” Binay said.

So what happens now to the Binay political dynasty?

It lives on. Binay’s son, Junjun, is mayor of Makati City (although he is currently under suspension for corruption charges) and his two daughters Nancy and Abigail are sitting members of the Senate and House of Representatives, respectively.

But to lock in the Binay dynasty, the Vice President announced that his wife Elenita will run for president in his stead, paving the way for an all-women, three-way race for president.

Elenita is no stranger to politics. She was once mayor of Makati.

Let the women games begin!

SINGER CHRIS BROWN HELD UP IN MANILA, LEARNS HIS LESSON NOT TO MESS WITH FILIPINOS

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) –  Grammy Award-winning singer Chris Brown has been in trouble many times before, but this time around, he chose to get in trouble in a country that would not put up with his shenanigans.

Brown was barred from leaving the Philippines because of a contract dispute, the official Philippines News Agency reported Wednesday.

Brown was stopped Wednesday morning while preparing to depart on a private jet from Manila’s international airport on his way to Hong Kong for a concert, the news agency said.

The Philippine Department of Justice said that an order had been issued Tuesday night to stop any attempts by Brown, 26, to leave the country.

Brown performed in a Manila concert that evening as planned, but the order was put in place to compel him to pay back money that promoters said was owed to them after he failed to appear for a previous appearance scheduled for last New Year’s Eve.

Encouraged by the departure hold order, promoters of the New Year’s Eve concert amended their complaint against Brown, asking the Department of Justice that they not only be paid what was owed to them but an additional 50% interest compounded monthly.(We’re not good at math but we suspect that with now almost six months since Brown incurred the “debt,” it could mean lots and lots of money for the aggrieved promoters.)

The promoters have the full backing of Bureau of Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares whose agency is sure to benefit from taxes that will be collected from promoters if and when they get paid by Brown.

Rumors are circulating that Brown is currently detained in an airport holding cell and is being fed rice and chicken adobo three times a day. He had earlier requested for a McDonald’s cheeseburger but the request was denied.

It wasn’t clear how long Brown will be held in Manila but he certainly has learned the lesson of his lifetime: not to mess with Filipinos!

SENATOR NANCY BINAY WILL WEAR AN ALFREDO BARRAZA DESIGN FOR SONA

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Senator Nancy Binay, daughter of Philippine Vice President Jejomar Binay, was the epicenter of jokes at last year’s presidential State of the National Address (SONA) for wearing a gown that made her look like an air balloon.

On Monday, July 27, at President NoyNoy Aquino’s final SONA, Binay is making sure that there will not be a repeat embarrassment from last year.

She proudly announced that she will walk this year’s red carpet wearing a gown designed by Colombian Alfredo Barraza, the same artist who designed MJ Lastimosa’s evening gown at the last Miss Universe pageant in Florida.  Lastimosa wore a multi-colored gown and headdress that made her look like a giant meringue wedding cake.

Binay, however, refused to divulge the theme and design of her gown, except to say that it will have the colors of the Philippine flag — red, white, blue and yellow. “I don’t want to spoil the surprise,” she said.
