MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – In the United States, whenever the president delivers his State of the Union Address (SOTU), the opposing political party designates someone to deliver an official response. That has not been the case with the Philippines’ State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Until now.

The Office of the Vice President, Jejomar Binay, has announced that he will be delivering a TSONA — Totoong State of the Nation Address (True State of the Nation Address) after President Aquino delivers his SONA on July 27.

It is common knowledge that unlike in the U.S., the Philippines’ president and vice president don’t necessarily have to belong to the same political party, as is the case with Aquino and Binay. Voters vote for prez and VP separately.

Binay had a falling out with Aquino recently, prompting the vice president to resign from his cabinet position. Since then, Binay has been attacking the Aquino administration, its policies and failures.

Binay has declared that he was running for president in 2016. Aquino, meanwhile, is expected to announce soon who he is endorsing as his party’s nominee for president.

SONA or TSONA, it will be a classic case of he said, he said.

CNN ATTACKED BY HACKERS!

ATLANTA, Georgia (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Two weeks ago, CNN ran a banner headline announcing that ISIS was advancing “on two fonts.” The headline meant to read “fronts.” It was assumed that the error was a copyediting issue.

But apparently, it was a hacking issue, and it happened yet again.

CNN, while doing a live interview with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on the latest opinion polls, ran the headline (quoting Trump), ‘I don’t need posters.’ It meant to read “pollsters.”

Well, it now appears that the two embarrassing headlines were the result of hackers breaking into CNN computers and stealing letters. They stole the letter ‘R’ in the first incident and the letter ‘L’ in this latest hack.

We wonder which letter would be next!

PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT AQUINO TO DELIVER HIS LAST ‘SANA’ ON MONDAY

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – On Monday, July 27, Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino will deliver his last SANA. His State of the Nation Address.

No, that was not a typo. Aquino will, in fact, deliver his SANA. ‘Sana’ is a Tagalog word loosely translated as ‘wishful thinking.’

Malacañang, the presidential palace, gave reporters a glimpse of what the president will say — a laundry list of what he wished he had done as president and what he hopes will happen after his term expires in 2016:

He wished he had brought a first lady into Malacañang, particularly reigning Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach. Well, time is running out.
He wished he had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Now THAT is really some wishful thinking.
He wished Mar Roxas had been his vice president instead of Jojo Binay. Dream on.
He wished the constitution would be amended to allow him to run for a second six-year term. Case closed.
He hopes that Mar Roxas will be the next president. Careful what you wish for.
He wished that he hadn’t said in public that he will let himself be run over by a train if MRT, Metro Manila’s mass light railway system, continued with its massive problems. Too late! Filipinos are anxiously waiting!
He hopes that he will be given a complimentary VIP, front-row ticket to Madonna’s Rebel Heart Concert in Manila in February next year. Now we’re talking!
He hopes his sister, talk-show host Kris, would stop embarrassing the Aquino family and STFU! Now you’re talking!
