TRUCE: MEGYN KELLY AND DONALD TRUMP BOTH GO ON A 10-DAY VACATION

imageNEW YORK, New York  (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – The word war between Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and FOX News seems to be coming to an end, thanks to  an agreement recently made between Trump and FOX News Chairman Roger Ailes.

Earlier in the week, Ailes was quoted as saying to Trump, ‘We resolve this now…or go to war.’

It all started during the first Republican presidential debate when FOX News moderator Megyn Kelly asked Trump about his past comments that were degrading to women.

On her Wednesday broadcast, Kelly announced she would be taking a vacation, starting immediately. “It’s been an interesting week,” Kelly said, adding “It’s been six months since I’ve had a vacation.”

Almost simultaneously, the Trump campaign announced that their candidate has cancelled  all his campaign and media appearances for the next 10 days.

It is highly unlikely that Kelly and Trump will be vacationing in the same resort, but it would be interesting to see — after both come back from vacation — who would have a darker tan.

SYNCHRONIZED RICE PLANTING TO DEBUT AT 2018 ASIAN GAMES, PHILIPPINES GOING FOR THE GOLD

JAKARTA, Indonesia (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – “Planting rice is never fun, bent from morn till the set of sun…”

These are lyrics from a Filipino folk song about rice farming, an industry that is shared by many countries in Asia, especially where rice is a major staple.

While modern farming technology is now being used in some rice-producing countries, manual rice planting is still the norm in the Philippines and elsewhere in Asia. It has, in fact become a synchronized sport, as seen in this video.

When the 2018 Asian Games are staged in Jakarta, Indonesia, a new sports competition will make its debut: synchronized rice planting.  Expect to see the best of the best from the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Philippines’ team is going for the gold medal in this new sport, complete with original Pilipino music (OPM).

The next Asian Games were supposed to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam, but the country withdrew its winning bid to host because of economic problems.  Indonesia then stepped up and won the privilege to host in the city of Jakarta.

‘GAYSPEAK’ TO BE TAUGHT IN PHILIPPINE SCHOOLS?

MANILA, Philippines  (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – You may have heard words like ‘anech’ (what?), ‘lafang’ (food) ‘jowa’ (husband/wife).  Most likely, you’ve heard it from Filipino gay men engaged in conversation.

It’s called gayspeak, a unique ‘language’ spoken in the Philippines that’s transcended gender and sexual orientation. Filipino straight men and women, like Kris Aquino for example, now often use the gay language interchangeably with their straight talk.

It is a language that’s constantly evolving.  Even ‘gayspeak’ is now referred to by a new name, ‘beki,’ a Filipino colloquial term that means ‘gay.’

The beki language has become so popular that the Philippines’ Department of Education  is considering incorporating the gay language into the school curriculum.

In fact, Education Secretary Armin Luistro on Monday said that the department is mulling the possibility of using ‘beki’ as medium of instruction in schools.

In a recent interview with reporters, Luistro said gay language can be part of the official communication if it is acceptable to the majority.

Well, it is already widely acceptable, Mr. Secretary, so what’s keeping you from implementing it?

In San Francisco, Epee Rafanan, co-founder of a Filipino American gay social organization, Barangay, said  teaching gayspeak in Philippine schools is long overdue.

Barangay (pronounced Baran-GUY), refers to a Filipino neighborhood political unit, headed by a Barangay captain.  The organization Rafanan founded has a different pronunciation — Barangaaay — to reflect its mission and identity.
