Manny Pacquiao Asks President Aquino For Use Of Presidential Chopper For His Senatorial Campaign

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Boxing champion and senatorial candidate Manny Pacquiao today asked President NoyNoy Aquino to lend him the presidential helicopter to use during his campaign sorties.

Pacquiao made the request as Aquino defended his sister, Kris, after photos of her alighting from the presidential chopper went viral on the Internet. Critics questioned Kris’ use of the chopper in one of the campaign events for Liberal Party standard bearer Mar Roxas.

In defending his sister, the president said that Kris is one of the biggest taxpayers and occasionally, he wants to show the biggest “investors” the progress of the government’s tax-funded projects.

Pacquiao, who is running under a rival party headed by Vice President Jejomar Binay, says that he, like Kris, is entitled to the use of the presidential chopper because is also among the biggest taxpayers.

As a matter of fact, Pacquiao is No. 1 on the list of the top 500 taxpayers, according to records of the Bureau of Internal Revenue.  Kris  is No. 16 on the list.

Sources close to Aquino have confirmed that the president is regretting opening his big mouth.  There is now no reason for him to deny Pacquiao’s request.

Hillary Clinton On Hot Sauce: “I Wasn’t Pandering To The Black Community”

imageNEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – When Hillary Clinton told a radio show that she always carries a bottle of hot sauce in her bag, she was accused of “pandering” to the perceived tastes of black voters.

Her comment quickly trended on social media, and she needed to dispel the accusation.

“I wasn’t pandering to the black community. As a matter of fact, I was pandering to the Asian community. It’s Sriracha, for heaven’s sake,” she told The Adobo Chronicles.

‘Bad Luck’ Update For Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport: Shattered Glass And Collapsed Ceiling

Latest NAIA bad luck incident; inset: Honrado

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – As far as Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Jose Angel Honrado is concerned, all the unfortunate things that have happened at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) can be blamed on “bad luck.”

Past “unfortunate” events include collapsed ceilings, flooding during a heavy rainstorm, airconditioning units inoperable, the laglag bala extortion scheme, disappearing luggage, brownouts, etc.

Well, Honrado is happy to announce that  yet another incident at NAIA — this time in Terminal 1 — just proves his point.  He feels vindicated.

A glass partition at the pre-departure lounge near Gate 10 shattered at around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, just after passengers had passed. No one was injured.

Renz Caldejon of the airport’s operations division, who is in charge of the aerobridges, claimed that two airplanes at gates nine and 11 started their engines at the same time, causing the glass partition to vibrate and shatter.

At around 10 a.m. yesterday, sales clerks from the Duty Free Shop’s perfume section got a fright when part of the ceiling, made of gypsum board, collapsed.

A black plastic bag, left behind by workers when the ceiling was being renovated, fell through the hole.

According to a sales clerk, water dripping from the air conditioning system weakened the ceiling and caused it to collapse.

At least, we now know that Honrado was not lying about the “bad luck.”
