Rappler Running Out Of Followers . . . And Money

IMG_5332.PNGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – If you’ve seen CEO Maria Ressa’s face lately, there is no denying that her social news media outlet, Rappler, is in big trouble.

She can’t believe that blogger (and now Assistant Secretary of PCOO) Mocha Uson has more followers than Rappler.  For the longest time, she has been crying out loud and clear that she wants to “take back the Internet.” From whom, only she knows.

But no such luck. Not only is Rappler running out of followers and engagement. It seems it is also running out of funds.

So in a last-ditch effort to save her failing online news source, she has resorted to begging — begging the public to donate to her company in the name of  “free and fearless journalism.”

But if Rappler’s journalism is free, why does Ressa need the public to pay her?  And if it’s fearless, why is so afraid of competition from Uson?

The Adobo Chronicles tried to reach Ressa for comment, but her cellphone seems to have run out of pre-paid load.  Tsk. Tsk.

UN Human Rights Council Calls Risa Hontiveros “Fake Senator”

IMG_3046.JPGGENEVA, Switzerland (The Adobo Chronicles, Berlin Bureau) – The United Nations Human Rights Council today called Risa Hontiveros a “fake senator.”  This after the Philippine lady legislator criticized the Philippine government’s claim of victory in the UN Body’s acceptance of the country’s Universal Periodic Report (UPR) on human rights.

Hontiveros called the Philippine victory “fake.”

A spokesperson for the UN Council said that when decisions or actions favor her politics and that of her allies, Hontiveros is all praise.  But when they go against her, she calls its fake.

“Such is the mark of a fake politician,” the spokesperson said.

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – House Majority Floor leader and Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas wants to abolish the Liberal Party (LP) and replace it with a new entity.

On Monday, September 25, 2017, Fariñas filed House Bill No. 6208, that would create the Legislative Police (LP), that is separate from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

“The Liberal Party is a diminishing breed and it is time that we replace it with a new organization that could truly ensure the peace, safety and freedom of all Filipinos,” the Congressman told The Adobo Chronicles.

Once created, Fariñas wants to head the new LP.

“It has always been my passion to a policeman,” he said.
