Vatican Urges World’s Catholics To Skip Valentine’s Day This Year

AC190526-9B76-4F15-8C25-0EDAEC0DBA1EROME, Italy (The Adobo Chronicles, Berlin Bureau) – The Vatican is urging devout Catholics worldwide to skip celebrating Valentine’s Day this year.

February 14, 2018 is not only the Day of Hearts, but also Ash Wednesday, one of the more revered holy days in the Catholic Faith.

Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and abstinence, so Pope Francis has asked all Catholics to refrain from eating meat or engaging in corporal acts.

Restaurant Associations around the world are reporting a steep decline in the number of Valentine’s dinner reservations this year. “Our usual customers seem to be fasting this Valentine’s Day,” they said.

From dust we came and unto dust we shall return.

Protesting U.P. Students Asked To Reimburse Government

61C76086-8CD3-434C-B06E-0ADF94595493QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Students of the University of the Philippines in Diliman and other parts of the country will be required to reimburse the government for their free tuition if they want to graduate.

President Rodrigo Duterte issued an Executive Order that would in effect cancel the free tuition status of U.P. students who waste taxpayer money by walking out of their classes to protest against the very government that gives them free education.

”If they want to continue protesting against the government, they should transfer to Ateneo University, De La Salle University or St. Scholastica’s College,” Duterte said. “It is about time we spend taxpayer money wisely.’

In Manila, An Eerie Silent Protest Against Donald Trump’s State Of the Union Address

F50032E8-A326-4265-80C8-3C9A5C3E1851MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – As President Donald Trump was delivering his first State of the Union Address in Washington, D.C., an eerie situation was unfolding in Manila.

The U.S. Embassy in the Philippines was unusually quiet, nay, void of the usual long queues of Filipinos seeking to get a travel or immigrant visa to the land of the free, home of the brave.

An investigation by The Adobo Chronicles revealed that Filipinos stayed away from the embassy in protest of Trump’s proposed immigration policy that would deny U.S. citizens the opportunity to petition their Filipino relatives, other than spouses and minor children.

Many of those who boycotted the embassy were brothers, sisters, parents, and adult children of Filipinos now living in America as naturalized citizens. These family members have long been waiting to have their petitions processed.  Some have been waiting since 1994.  Now the American Dream is all but — well, a dream.

Staff of the embassy have also told The Adobo Chronicles that they worry about losing their jobs.  “If there are no petitions and visas to process, what is there left for us to do,” they said.

Sources close to the U.S. State Department indicated that plans are now being prepared to convert the U.S. Embassy in Manila to a theme park, like a mini Disneyland or Universal Studios, should Trump’s immigration plan goes into effect.
