MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Now that Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales has stepped down, former Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino faces great uncertainty over criminal charges filed against him and others over the botched Mamasapano incident in 2015.
Morales previously ordered the filing of usurpation of authority and violation of Section 3 (a) of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act against Aquino for his liability in the so-called Mamasapano Massacre which left 44 members of the Special Action Force (SAF) dead.
Until recently, PNoy’s legal team was confident the former President would be acquitted because of his political affinity with Morales.
So what’s the new strategy?
PNoy’s legal team told The Adobo Chronicles that Aquino will plead insanity in the case before the new Ombudsman.
”We’re confident of our new defense strategy,” the team said. “We have all the psychiatric records of Aquino to support our case.”
It’s insane!
