Donald Trump Now Calls The Philippines ‘Inday-Pacific’

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – At the ongoing ASEAN Summit in Singapore, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence has again referred to the Asia-Pacific region as “Indo-Pacific.”

“Indo-Pacific” is being used by the Trump Administration to define America’s new geopolitical view of Asia. Trump started using the new reference to Asia since his tour to the region last year.

The use of the term was a departure from language employed by previous administrations, and has led to speculation that it could have to do with Washington softening the ground for a revival of the so-called Quadrilateral strategic alliance consisting of the US, Japan, Australia and India to counter China’s rise.

Now, in what  is being considered a public enodorsement of Sara Duterte-Carpio’s rumored and much-speculated eye on the Philippine Presidency in 2022, Donald Trump has recently been heard using the term “Inday-Pacific” to refer to the Philippines.

Carpio is the mayor of Davao City and is the daughter of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. She is more popularly known among Filipinos as “Inday Sara.”

Tourism Department To Use Coco Martin’s Emperador TV Commercial To Promote The Philippines

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Each year, the Department of Tourism (DOT) spends big bucks to create international campaigns to promote Philippine tourism.

Past campaigns promoted internationally-recognized tourist spots like the Banaue Rice Terraces, Palawan’s Underground River, Bohol’s Chocolate Hills, Albay’s Mayon Volcano, and the miles and miles of white sand beaches all over the islands.

This year, DOT has decided to promote the country’s people — beautiful people.  And it is not going to cost taxpayers a single centavo.

Instead of producing expensive commercials to show on international TV, DOT will use the latest Emperador TV commercial featuring actor Coco Martin.

In this commercial, Martin sings his way through the 30-minute video, surrounded by all good-looking Filipinos — from his friends to traffic police to jeepney drivers to road construction workers.

The message behind the commercial: Philippines is the land of (all) beautiful people.

In a way, the people are among the country’s greatest natural resources.

Government Unveils Latest Project Under ‘Build, Build, Build’ Program

F1887DBE-8CED-4379-AE64-DE2CB3525F7A.jpegQUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – There is no stopping the Philippine Government from launching and unveiling new infrastructure projects under the Administration’s ‘Build, Build, Build’ program.

This week, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) opened an awe-inspiring footbridge along EDSA in the Kamuning, Quezon City area.

The bridge, almost twice as high as the regular footbridges seen throughout the Metropolis, has earned lots of praise.

Filipinos who have seen the bridge say that the structure not only ensures the safety of pedestrians trying to cross EDSA, but it also promotes physical fitness especially among senior citizens. They also say this project could become a famous tourist attraction.

Leave it to MMDA to conceptualize and actualize world-class infrastructure projects like this one which could make it to the Guinness Book of Records.

Previously, MMDA received commendations for a smaller footbridge built in a park in Manila:
