U.S. State Department To Rescue Maria Ressa From Philippine War Zone

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington, D.C.) – Reacting to a recently-aired interview on “60 Minutes,” where  Maria Ressa proclaimed the Philippines under the Duterte government is the worst war zone she’s ever been in, the U.S. State Department said it will send immediate rescue to the Rappler CEO.

Ressa is a dual citizen of the Philippines and the U.S.

The safety and security of U.S. citizens overseas is one of the top priorities of the U.S. State Department. To keep its citizens informed, it may recommend that they leave the immediate area or foreign country if it is safe to do so. If commercial transportation is unavailable, it will do its best to identify what transportation options may be available to help U.S. citizens travel out of the crisis location.

We are very concerned about the safety of Ressa, especially because she is one of our citizens who has received multiple awards for her  alleged journalism  work,” a State Department spokesperson told The Adobo Chronicles.

For security reasons, the State Department didn’t disclose when it will rescue Ressa or whether it will be the U.S. Army or Navy that will take her out of the Philippines.

We pray for Ressa’s safety and hope she’ll be removed from the Philippine war zone soon.

Donald Trump To Send Seventh Fleet To Help Philippines’ War On Drugs

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – President Donald Trump has suggested sending the US Army over the border into Mexico to “wage war” on drug cartels in a typically bombastic tweet.

The US President said his country stood “ready, willing & able to get involved and do the job quickly and effectively” if his Mexican counterpart, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador asked him for help.

Meanwhile, Trump also offered to send the U.S. Seventh Fleet to the Philippines to help the country’s war on drugs now headed by its new Drug Czar, Vice President Leni Robredo.

The Seventh Fleet is a numbered fleet (a military formation) of the United States Navy. It is headquartered at U.S. Fleet Activities Yokosuka, in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. It is part of the United States Pacific Fleet.

Trump made the offer after Robredo was quoted by the news media that she wants to enlist the help of the United Nations and the U.S. in dealing with the illegal drugs problem.

Drug Czar Scraps Operation Tokhang, Replaces It with Operationg Talklang

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – One of the first actions of Vice President Leni Robredo after she assumed the position of Drug Czar was to scrap  ‘Opertion Tokhang,’ the anti-illegal drug strategy of knocking on doors of drug suspects to bring them back to the fold of the law.  Critics say that Tokhang has resulted in the unnecessary killing  of drug suspects.

Instead, Robredo wants to pursue “Operation TalkLang.”  It would involve law enforcement authorities  who will refrain from violent and possiblly fatal confrontation with drug suspects.  Police officers, armed with just body cams and whistles, will simply calmly talk to the suspects to surrender.

Duterte supporters however find the new campaign  indicative of Robredo’s incompetent and clueless strategy in addressing the illegal drug problem. “She’s all just talk,” they said.
