MMDA To Charge Toll Fee To Cross the EDSA Kamuning Footbridge

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manil Bureau) – Victoria Sports Tower, located next to GMA Channel 7 on EDSA in Kamuning, is reportedly the largest indoor sports complex in the world. One can only imagine what it would cost to become a club member.

Well, leave it to the smart officials of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to come up with a much cheaper alternative to a daily workout for just P5 a day!

Today, MMDA announced it will begin charging a “toll’ fee or P5 each time someone crosses the  “footbridge to heaven.”

The footbridge, located just next to Victoria Sports, has been criticized for being too steep, especially for seniors and people with disabilities.

But the MMDA thought of a brilliant scheme for the “toll” which would be a thousand times cheaper than becoming a member of Victoria’s gym. Not to mention being a more effective way to lose weight and tone muscles.

So what are you waiting for?   The choice is yours: P5 each each way, or thousands of pesos for gym access?

Duterte To Deliver SONA, Robredo To Respond With SOTO

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – For every action, there is a correspondong reaction. For every speech, a counter-speech.

When the President of the United States delivers the annual State of the Union (SOTU) address, it is immediately followed by an official response from a designated member of the opposing political party.

Well, the Philippines is no exception to this exercise.

On Monday, July 22, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will deliver his Fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) during which he is expected to say, “The state of the Opposition is seditious,” referring to Sedition charges recently filed against Vice President Leni Robredo and members of the Opposition in connection with the Bikoy videos.

Following Dutete’s SONA, Robredo will deliver the Opposition‘s response, the State of the Opposition address, or SOTO.

SOTO, with one “T,” not with two “Ts” because that would mean Senate President Tito Sotto.

So, stay tuned to hear about the SOTO.

Will the Liberal Party rise again?

Filipinos Can Now Visit Iceland Visa-Free!

REYKJAVIK, Iceland (The Adobo Chronicles, Berlin Bureau) – Until recently, Filipinos wanting to visit Iceland needed a travel visa. Not any more. The Nordic country has just announced that it has added the Philippines among countries whose citizens are not required to obtain a travel visa.

The announcement came just  weeks after Iceland sponsored a U.N. Resolution calling for an investigation of President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs which has allegedly killed thousands. Extra-judicially, that is.

Iceland is a dream travel destination for Filipinos because they won’t ever miss their favorite  shaved ice snack, halo-halo.  There’s a lot of ice just laying around in Iceland.

There’s one caveat, though. Filipinos wanting to avail of this no-visa policiy must prove they or members of their family must prove they are EJK victims.
