MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Insisting that her visit to the Philippines 🇵🇭 was unofficial, Rapporteur Agnes Callamard today clarified her trip to Manila had nothing to do with her capacity with the UN’s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Callamard told The Adobo Chronicles that she came not as UN Rapporteur but as a Reporter for The New York Times (NYT). She confirmed that she had a second job with the Pulitzer Prize-winning publication.

Expect another hard-hitting NYT piece in the next few days.

  • She had dinner with Commission on Human Rights Chair Chito Gascon
  • She had a private screening of Leni Robredo’s video message to a UN conference where the Vice President talked about summary killings under Duterte’s war on drugs
  • She read archived issues of The Philippine Daily Inquirer
  • While in her hotel room, she googled Rappler to review stories about 7,000 plus killed in the war on drugs
  • She watched ABS-CBN and GMA News, and occasionally, CNN Philippines 🇵🇭

Asked if she made an effort to meet with Philippine National Police Director General Ronald ‘Bato’ de la Rosa, Callamard said that she didn’t find it necessary since she already had all the first-hand information she needed to prepare a comprehensive report to the UN.

Meanhile, Callamard categorically denied that she has been hired as a paid consultant of the Liberal Party as recently revealed in Wikipedia.

UN Rapporteur Applies For Political Asylum In The Philippines

IMG_1145

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Agnes Callamard, Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Summary or Arbitrary Executions of the UN Office of the High Commission for Human Rights (OHCHR), is currently in the Philippines attending a number of events and “academic engagements.”

Her presence in the country has been met with criticism because she did not coordinate her travel with the Philippine government which is the usual protocol for someone in her position.

The OHCHR said that Callamard is here not on official mission.

Now, we know the purpose of her trip.

In an exclusive interview with The Adobo Chronicles, Callamard said that she is here to apply for political asylum.

She said she has made the decision to escape the emotional, mental and political persecution she has been experiencing at the UN. “Everything I’ve said about President Duterte, the war on drugs, and the Philipppines has been forced on me and I did it under duress.”

“I can no longer in conscience continue to promote the lies that have been hurled against Duterte by elements out to destablize his administration and take him down from the presidency.  I have decided to stop being used for this purpose,” Callamard added.

So there you have it.  For those who have been bashing Callamard, take a deep breath.  She’s actually one of us!
