Filipina Group Wants Miss Universe Pageant In The Philippines Cancelled

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – An elite group of Filipina women has asked the Miss Universe Organization to cancel the January 2017 beauty pageant scheduled to be held in the Philippines.

The letter signed by more than 150 individuals (as of press time) claims that the current political atmosphere in the country is not conducive to holding a prestigious international beauty contest like Miss Universe.

The co-signers of the letter-petition are the very same people who celebrated the crowning less than a year ago of Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, the reigning Miss Universe who is from the Philippines. It is rumored that majority of them were first runners-up or  “thank you girls” in various local beauty pageants.

All of the netizen comments on the Facebook page which posted the letter to the Miss Universe Organization were critical of the group and accused the co-signers of having the so-called crab mentality, referring to people who want to denigrate and pull down their own group or country.

Some netizens questioned the group if they would discourage their own relatives from visiting the Philippines as balikbayans or encourage women-owned businesses in the country to take their companies elsewhere.

Ironically, the petitioners are quiet about another international beauty pageant, Miss Earth, which will be held in the Philippines this month.

That’s right, pick and choose.

Debate Commission Announces New Format For Final U.S. Presidential Debate

img_6229LAS VEGAS,  Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles, Las Vegas Bureau) – The non-profit Commission on Presidential Debates just announced a new format for the third and final debate between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump.

The commission has finally acknowledged that time limits given to candidates to answer questions or rebutt answers of their opponents has never worked, with candidates talking over moderators and one another.

The new format will mimic what the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences does during Oscar awards night, where the end of the allotted time for acceptance speeches by winners is signaled by music which would eventually drown the speakers.

The commission believes this will make the job of the debate moderator much easier and will make  room for more questions and answers.

The music that has been selected by the commission is “Don’t Stop” by  Fleetwood Mac.

Hmmm, wasn’t that the campaign theme song of then candidate Bill Clinton?

Donald Trump’s Demand For Final Debate: No Moderator

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles, Las Vegas Bureau) – The third and final presidential debate will take place at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas on Wednesday, October 19 from 9pm EST.

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump will face each other in a discussion moderated by Fox News Sunday presenter, Chris Wallace.

In a desperate move to bounce back from his crumbling campaign and lackluster performance in the first two debates, Trump is now demanding a new format for Las Vegas. He wants no moderator.

In past debates — in the primaries as well as the general elections — Trump had repeatedly accused, and sometimes insulted, the debate moderators for being biased towards his opponents.  In last night’s debate, Trump called out both Anderson Cooper and Martha Raddatz, saying the moderators were not giving him as much time as Clinton to respond to questions.

So, for Las Vegas, the Trump campaign wants to eliminate the moderator and have a one-on-one, face to face, smirk to smirk, sniffle to sniffle match with Clinton.

The campaign also asked the Commission on Presidential Debates to get rid of podiums, chairs and microphones to allow its candidate to dance around and stalk Clinton just like he did in St. Louis.

Asked for comment about Trump’s proposal, Clinton told The Adobo Chronicles, “Bring it on!”

In the words of Trump himself, “She doesn’t quit.  She doesn’t give up.”

And why would she?
