Philippines Bans China From Participating In The 2017 Miss Universe Pageant In Manila

image.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The territorial dispute between China and several Asian countries over islands in the South China Sea has gone from the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague to the International Beauty Pageants.

It will be recalled that the court has recently ruled in favor of the Philippines over a case brought before it, challenging China’s claims over the disputed territories.

There are reports that China has banned the participation of the Philippines, along with Japan and Korea in the upcoming Miss Bikini Universe, an annual beauty pageant held in Shenzhen, south China’s Guangdong Province.  All indications point to the South China Sea territorial dispute as the reason for the ban.

In retaliation, the Philippines today announced that China will not be allowed to participate in the 2017 Miss Universe Pageant which will be hosted in Manila next January.

The Philippines was recently named as host of the Miss Universe Pageant, the third time  for the country.  Coincidentally, the Philippines has three Miss Universe title holders — Gloria Diaz, Margarita Moran and the reigning queen Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

It’s Official: Donald Trump Quits!

Trump: “I’m done, I quit!”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – No presidential candidate of a U.S. major party has ever died or withdrawn before a presidential election and no President-elect has ever died or withdrawn after winning the general election, but before taking office.

However, one vice-presidential candidate died after he was nominated but before the general election (James Sherman, Republican, 1912), and another dropped off his party’s ticket (Thomas Eagleton, Democrat, 1972).

In recent days, rumors have been floating around that the Republican National Committee is scrambling to try  to find a replacement in case its presidential nominee Donald Trump quits the race before election day.

Today, Trump made it official.  He’s quitting!

His campaign said that the GOP candidate is quitting trying to be presidential, and is done being nice and politically correct.

To date, he has attacked Mexicans, Muslims, immigrants, the Chinese, NATO,  members of his own political party, women, the disabled, journalists, mothers of fallen American soldiers, even crying babies.

Trump told The Adobo Chronicles, “Believe me, everyone is fair game to me from here on, so you’d better watch out!”

Philippine President Duterte Now A Fashion Trendsetter

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In a short span of thirty days, Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has surprised his countrymen — supporters and critics alike — with the speed with which he has implemented visible changes towards his campaign promise of reducing crime, drugs, government corruption, and improving the lives of ordinary citizens.

But Duterte has also started what others are calling a fashion revolution, one that has veered away from the glitz and glamour usually reserved for the rich and famous.  He has disappointed the socialite members of the political world as well as artists who dress them up in Hollywood-style fashion by canceling the traditional red carpet that has been the distracting hallmark of the presidential State of the Nation Address (SONA).

On a personal level, he has started  what can be described as a rebellious fashion trend that has all but demolished the very concept of formal and executive wear.

On this photo spread, Duterte shows off his comfy version of the traditional formal wear for men — the barong tagalog.  Many have called it the maong tagalog, consisting of the traditional barong, albeit with rolled up sleeves and the shirt unbuttoned at the neck, matched with denim pants and broen shoes. In the other photo, he sports a short-sleeve shirt with sockless shoes. Finally he is also seen in his signature checkered polo shirt.

Will the rest of his cabinet and other elected officials follow suit?
