PHILIPPINE ARCHBISHOP: NO MORE IVORY FOR RELIGIOUS IMAGES

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Archbishop Socrates Villegas, president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) , has issued a “pastoral guidance” prohibiting priests from receiving or blessing religious images made of ivory and any material derived from protected and endangered species.

However, he said that those statues and images of ivory already in use prior to the issuance of the pastoral guidance, should be safeguarded, and may remain in use for purposes of devotion and in recognition of their historical value.

“The Catholic Church must do its part. No matter the beauty of a work of art, it cannot justify the slaughter of wildlife, the use of endangered organic forms and the lending of a seal of approval to the threat posed to biodiversity by poachers and traffickers,” Villegas said.

Citing Pope Francis’ acclaimed encyclical on the environment, Villegas said: “Every instance of beauty is a reflection of the infinite beauty of the Creator.  We cannot, without offending the Creator, deface his creation.”

Asked by reporters why the pastoral guidance did not include wooden crosses which are mostly derived from trees,  the uprooting and cutting of which cause deforestation, which ultimately harms both animal and human species, as well as the environment, Villegas simply said, “next question, please!”

Talk about opening a Pandora’s box!

MARCO RUBIO SHOWS THE STUFF TO BE A GREAT PRESIDENT

MIAMI, Florida (The Adobo Chronicles ) – Florida Senator Marco Rubio is a fast-rising star in the Republican Party. The presidential candidate is expected to eventually capture his party’s nomination — after all the hype and hysteria that put GOPers Donald Trump and Ben Carson on top of the polls subside and voters finally come to their senses.

Slowly but surely, Rubio is showing the kind of stuff he’s made of — youth, intelligence and experience that will take him to the Oval Office.

Yesterday, Rubio fielded questions at St. Anselm College in New Hampshire. One of the questions he was asked was who he would like to “have a beer with” out of anyone in the world who is not a politician.

Rubio said he would like to have a beer with football legend Dan Marino, Russian chess prodigy Gary Kasparov and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai.

Of course, Rubio’s advisers and campaign staff failed to whisper in his ear that Malala, the famed Pakistani girls’ education activist, is both underage and Muslim. She is also socialist.

Under-age drinking is illegal, Muslims don’t drink alcohol, and Rubio is farthest from being a socialist.

So there.

Not to be outdone, Liberal Party and administration candidate Mar Roxas pledged today that if he loses in the 2016 elections, he  and his wife, broadcaster Korina Sanchez will renounce their Filipino citizenship.

Fair and square.
