POPE FRANCIS WANTS TO MEET WITH DONALD TRUMP DURING U.S. VISIT

imageHAVANA, Cuba (The Adobo Chronicles® )  –  Pope Francis arrives in the U.S. on Tuesday for a six-day visit during which he will meet with President and Mrs. Obama, address a joint session of Congress, speak before the United Nations General Assembly and attend a huge Catholic family assembly in Philadelphia.

Despite his very tight schedule, the Pope says he would like to meet with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to discuss issues of immigration which has been at the forefront of the real estate mogul’s campaign.

Speaking in his native Spanish, Pope Francis told reporters: “Me gustaría mucho para reunirse con Donald Trump para darle un poco de charla sobre los migrantes y la inmigración y para darle un poco de nalgadas .” (I would very much like to meet with Donald Trump to give him a little lecture about migrants and immigration and to give him a little spanking.)

Trump has not responded to the Pope’s request but is expected to make time to meet with the Holy Father as a way to win the votes and support of the estimated 76 Million Catholic voters in the U.S.

Trump is Presbyterian but  even a solid vote from the denomination’s 1.7 Million members will not assure him of the Republican nomination or the presidency.

DONALD TRUMP VS. BERNIE SANDERS: A HAIR-RAISING COMPETITION

imageNEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – It’s too early to predict which Republican or Democratic candidates will come face to face in the general elections, but this much we know: a hair-raising competition is brewing between Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders.

Campaign paraphernalia always play a role in who gets more exposure, and in some cases, more votes.

The Trump and Sanders campaigns seem to be thinking very much alike, as evidenced by their newly-unveiled campaign t-shirts, featuring their respective candidates’ — what else — hair.

In less than twenty four hours after their release, the t-shirts have all but run out and are currently in back-order.

Who knew hair could be such a defining element in a presidential campaign? Now we know what kind of strand campaigns are best made of.

OBAMA AND AQUINO IN SECRET TALKS OVER PHILIPPINES’ SUBIC BAY

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – For Barack Obama and NoyNoy Aquino, 2016 marks the end of their respective terms as president, and both are reportedly engaged in secret talks that could define their greatest legacy as heads of state. What’s at stake? Subic Bay, once America’s largest and most strategic naval base located in Olongapo City in the Philippines.

Almost a quarter of a century ago, Philippine lawmakers closed Subic Naval Base and sent the Americans packing amid rising nationalistic and anti-colonial sentiments among the Filipinos.

Now, the U.S. wants to go back to Subic, realizing its importance to maintaining American military supremacy in the region. Rising tensions over territorial claims by China, the Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries have prompted the United States to be on red alert in the South China Sea. But without a military stronghold in the area, the U.S. seems to have tipped the balance of power in  China’s favor.

The secret talks have but one overarching goal: return Subic Bay to the U.S.

America’s demand? It wants to occupy the sprawling former naval base —  permanently.

Aquino’s response? Sure, on the condition that the Philippines is named  America’s 51st state.

And what’s in it for Aquino? He’s termed out and cannnot run for reelection. But he has enjoyed being head of state and wants to continue in this privileged position. So he wants to be appointed governor of the 51st state. In exchange for Subic.

As for Obama, he is seriously reconsidering moving the site of the Obama Presidential Library from Chicago to Subic Bay.

Stay tuned.
