THE VATICAN, Italy – (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Pope Francis has rejected a request by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for a private audience when the leader of the Roman Catholic Church visits the United States September 22-27, 2015.
During his papal visit, Francis will meet with President and Mrs. Barack Obama, address a joint session of the U.S. Congress, speak before the United Nations General Assembly and attend a huge religious gathering in Philadelphia.
Trump has sent a letter to The Vatican requesting a short private audience with the Pope. The controversial candidate offered to fly the Pontiff to Las Vegas on his private jet for a meet and greet at the Trump Towers. “He wanted to seek the Pope’s advice on how to better reach out to America’s Catholic voters,” a Trump spokesperson said.
In rejecting the request, Pope Francis said, “By the grace of God, I cannot agree to meet with someone who has denigraded migrants and hard-working people like the Mexicans. And Trump has the nerve to meet with me after his disparaging remarks about Latinos! Has he forgotten that I, too, am Latino? ”
Trump could not immediately be reached for comment.
BRUSSELS, Belgium (The Adobo Chronicles®) – As Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump laid out details of his immigration policy, the European Union (EU) adopted a resolution that, in effect, negates Trump’s ill intentions against the estimated 11 Million undocumented immigrants now living in the U.S.
Trump’s immigration policy includes building a wall along the southern border to be paid for by Mexico, eliminating birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants, and the resolve to deport all 11 Million immigrants.
Meeting in Brussels, Belgium, the EU countries unanimously approved an immigration policy that would open their doors to the deported undocumented U.S. immigrants.
The EU is an economic and political union of 28 countries. It operates an internal (or single) market which allows free movement of goods, capital, services and people between member states.
The EU countries are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the UK.
Under the new EU policy, any deported undocumented U.S. immigrant will be allowed entry into any of the EU countries without the necessity of a visa. The only documents required upon entry is a valid passport from the immigrant’s home country and proof of residency in the U.S., such as a phone bill or a photocopy of an apartment rental agreement.
The immigrants will be automatically given a permanent residency status as well as government assistance in job training and job search. Free housing for one full year will be available to those who cannot afford to rent an apartment.
Education and health care are already either provided free or with government subsidy in most EU countries, so these will not be an additional burden to the immigrants.
In adopting the new policy, the EU council said that the member countries have great confidence in the skills that the immigrants will bring with them which, in return, could result in greater productivity and improved economy.
The EU says that the member countries especially encourage undocumented U.S. immigrants who speak a second language other than English, to apply for EU permanent residency.
“The EU countries pride themselves of being the ‘melting pot’ of language and culture, and immigrants from all over the world can only further contribute to this favorable image,” the council said in a statement.
SILICON VALLEY, California (The Adobo Chronicles®) – A plan backed by venture capitalist Tim Draper to split California into six states has gained enough signatures to make the November 2016 ballot, the plan’s backers say.
On Tuesday, Draper told USA Today the campaign had garnered 1.3 million signatures, well over the approximately 808,000 needed. The signatures will be submitted in Sacramento Wednesday for placement on the November 2016 ballot.
The six carved out states would look like this:
Jefferson: The northern part of the state, including Humboldt and Mendocino counties.
North California: The wine country counties of Sonoma and Napa, as well as the Sierra Nevada region.
Silicon Valley: Including San Francisco, San Jose and most of what’s considered the San Francisco Bay Area.
Central California: The vast central valley farm region, including Tulare and Fresno counties.
West California: Including Santa Barbara and Los Angeles.
South California: Including what’s called the Inland Empire of San Bernadino and Riverside, plus San Diego.
Upon hearing the good news, residents in Tijuana in the southern U.S.-Mexico border rallied in the streets demanding that their town be included in the planned South California state.
North of the border, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors will vote Thursday on a resolution endorsing Tijuana’s inclusion.
“Everyday, thousands cross the border — legally and illegally — into and out of Tijuana for work , business or tourism,” the board resolution states, “and it is in the best interest of San Diego and its economy to lift travel restrictions between the county and Tijuana. What could be a better way to do that than to make Tijuana a part of South California and the U.S.?”
Draper told reporters he was open to the idea of annexing TJ to South California.
