SANTA CLARA, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – If you’re wondering what Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines was doing at Super Bowl 50’s Media Night in San Jose, wonder no more.

She masqueraded as a correspondent for Inside Edition but her secret mission was to convince the National Football League (NFL) to bring Super Bowl 51 to Manila.

And it worked. The NFL announced today that next year’s Super Bowl will be held at the Philippine Arena, just a few miles north of Manila.

Before you wonder once more how Super Bowl could be held in a city that does not even have a team in the NFL, think again:

Super Bowl 50 is being held at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, headquarters of the 49ers who are not even in this year’s championship game. (Not to mention San Francisco which is hosting Super Bowl City when the game is not even being held in The City.)

The Philippine Arena is one of the largest, if not the largest, indoor arenas in the world.

Imagine all the spectacle and possibilities of Super Bowl being held indoors in a country where everything is more fun.

It will make the Super Bowl a truly international event, unlike baseball’s World Series which is, in reality, only a North American Series.

Miss Universe: Filipinos Correct Steve Harvey’s Mistake, Live On TV

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) –  Leave it to the Filipinos to correct a major error, like Steve Harvey’s announcement of the wrong winner in last month’s Miss Universe beauty pageant in Las Vegas.

Miss Colombia wore the crown for several minutes before Harvey came back on stage to admit he mistakenly announced the South American beauty as the new Miss Universe.  But after everything was corrected, the television coverage of the live event had already ended.

So to give back Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach that lost moment at the pageant, the Philippines recreated the traditional Miss Universe Walk.

This time it was live on television.

All’s  well that ends well.

Filipino Cardinal Criticizes Gown Donations To Hurricane Victims

CEBU CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The “throw-away culture” has been prevalent among Filipinos even during disasters, according to Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.

After the supertyphoon Yoland (Haiyan) hit the Philippines two years ago, Tagle recalls how someone donated a wedding gown to the relief efforts.

Yolanda was the strongest typhoon recorded to hit land, which claimed more than 6,000 lives and displaced hundreds of thousands of Filipinos in Central Visayas.

“Imagine, during the time of Haiyan or Yolanda, as we were unpacking some of the donations, there was a wedding gown. Who would use a wedding gown? They were just throwing unused clothes to the poor,” he said.

Apparently, it wasn’t just a wedding gown that was donated to the typhoon victims.

The Adobo Chronicles just learned that the evening gown worn by Miss Philippines MJ Lastimosa at a previous Miss Universe pageant was also donated.

Lastimosa’s gown resembled a giant wedding cake and many believed that the Colombian-designed gown cost her the crown.
