STEVE HARVEY INVITES MISS PHILIPPINES AND MISS COLOMBIA TO ‘FAMILY FEUD’

imageNEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles) – In an effort to repair his reputation as a television host after that Miss Universe gaffe on Sunday, Steve Harvey has extended an invitation to Miss Philippines and Miss Colombia to appear on his syndicated show, ‘Family Feud.’

“I hope that both Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach and Ariadna Guetierrez will accept my invitation for them to be my guests during the show’s special Miss Universe edition, ” Harvey said.

“Family Feud” is an American television game show created by Mark Goodson where two families compete to name the most popular responses to survey questions in order to win cash and prizes.

For the special Miss Universe edition, there will only be two individual contestants — not families: Miss Universe and the first runner-up.

No crown and no prizes will be at stake, but Harvey hopes that his gesture will settle once and for all the controversy surrounding his mistake during the pageant finals in which he announced Miss Colombia as the new Miss Universe only to reverse himself moments later to say that it was actually Miss Philippines who won the contest.

“This invitation is also made in the spirit of sincere apology, camaraderie and world peace,” the TV host concluded.

And the survey said. . .

SENATOR GRACE POE EYEING PIA ALONZO WURTZBACH AS SUBSTITUTE IF DISQUALIFIED TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Two divisions of the Philippines’ Commission on Elections (COMELEC) have already issued rulings disqualifying Senator Grace Poe from running for president in the 2016 elections due to questions about her citizenship and residency status.  The COMELEC en banc still needs to issue its own ruling and chances are this case could be appealed to the Supreme Court.

Poe, and her vice presidential running mate Senator Chiz Escudero are preparing for the worst.

In the event that Poe is disqualified, the senator already has her pick for a substitute candidate: newly-crowned Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

In Philippine politics, popularity and name recognition could spell victory for any poliltical candidate.  That’s why presidents, senators, congressmen, and mayors have popular celebrities among their ranks — boxers, basketball players, film actors and actresses, journalists.

After winning the Miss Universe crown last Sunday, Wurtzbach is probably the most popular celebrity in the country today, more popular than boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, a congressman who is running for senator in 2016.

Although Wurtzbach was born in Stuttgart, Germany (her father is German), she is considered a natural-born Filipino in accordance with the Philippine Constitution because her mother is a Filipino citizen. So birthers will not have any valid case to disqualify Wurtzbach on citizenship grounds.

The Philippines adheres to Jus sanguinis (right of blood) which is the legal principle that, at birth, an individual acquires the nationality of his/her natural parent/s.

Watch for the big headline next summer: “Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach Is Crowned Philippine President!”

GERMANY: THE NEW MISS UNIVERSE IS OUR CANDIDATE TOO

imageBERLIN, Germany (The Adobo Chronicles) – Saying that Sarah-Lorraine Riek does not speak for them, officials of  the organization in charge of the Miss Germany pageant, has issued an apology to Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

Shortly after the pageant finals on Sunday, Riek, Germany’s contestant in the international pageant,  told a television reporter that none of the contestants voted for Miss Philippines and that she was very upset at the results. As part of the final judging process, each of the contestants, other than the top three (USA ,  Colombia and the Philippines), was asked to vote for who she thinks should be the next Miss Universe.

In issuing the apology, the German organization stated that, ‘in fact  we are extremely happy that Wurtzbach won. She is Germany’s candidate too!’

Wurtzbach, of course, is half-German.

Germany has won just one Miss Universe crown in 1961 (Marlene Schmidt) while Wurtzbach is the third Filipina to win Miss Universe (Gloria Diaz in 1969 and Margarita Moran in 1973).
