JOLLIBEE CHICKEN JOY AIRDROP FOR PHILIPPINE MARINES: MCDONALD’S, KFC CRY FOUL

imagePuerto Princesa, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) –  The Ayungin Shoal in the West Philippine Sea is among the disputed territories between China and the neighboring countries. Both the Philippines and China have laid claim to the shoal, where a Philippine navy vessel, the BRB Sierra Madre, has been grounded for months now.

Since its grounding, the Philippine military has been standing guard and protecting the vessel, replenishing both troops and supplies, despite several attempts by the Chinese Coast Guard to block the Philippine operations.

Yesterday, as part of its supply replenishment, a Philippine Navy plane airdropped  several packages of food supply for the Filipino navymen currently stationed at the grounded vessel. The packages consisted of the popular chicken joy from Jollibee.image

Upon learning of the special airdrop, both McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) cried foul and accused the Philippine military of unfair business practice. “We have been at a great disadvantage, because the chicken joy airdrop gave Jollibee free advertising,” officials of McDonald’s and KFC claimed. ” We could have provided complimentary chicken McNuggets and original KFC chicken for the troops,” they added.

McDonald’s and KFC are filing a joint formal complaint against the Philippine military before the Department of Trade.

The rivaly between McDonald’s and Jollibee in the Philippines is no secret in the business circuit.

MCDONALD’S IS THE CULPRIT IN CHEESE SHORTAGE

imageNorthfield, Illinois – Just a day after it announced a shortage of its cheese products, Kraft Foods accused fastfood giant McDonald’s of hoarding tons and tons of the popular cheese brand Velveeta.

In its earlier announcement, Kraft said it did not know what was causing the Velveeta shortage, only going as far as to say that a noticeable decline in its product supply happens every now and then. Analysts surmised that the shortage may have something to do with the NFL season where football fans consume an unusual amount of cheese and cheese products.

However, a Kraft external investigation confirmed that McDonald’s has been stocking crates and crates of Velveeta cheese in just the last several weeks.

In an exclusive interview with The Adobo Chronicles, a top executive of the hamburger chain admitted that indeed, McDonald’s has been holding on to a huge inventory of Velveeta cheese.  The reason? “We are about to launch a new McDonald’s menu item — Mc N Cheese,” the spokesperson said.

MCDONALD’S MERGES WITH JOLLIBEE

mcdoManila, Philippines – The clown can’t compete with the fat bee in the Philippines.  McDonald’s has conceded that it can no longer ketchup with the enormous business success of Jollibee.  In a surprise announcement during a press conference held at the Mall of Asia in Manila, Tony Tan Caktiong, the man behind Jollibee Foods, said that McDonald’s has agreed to merge with Jollibee.  Effective immediately, all McDonald’s restaurants in the Philippines will become Jollibee.  Customers will not find any of the McMenus since Jollibee has decided to sell only its own champ burgers, in addition to its Chicken Joy, spaghetti, rice meals and sweet desserts.

The merger stunned many local investors at the Manila Stock Exchange.  The big question was: How can McDonald’s whose net worth is over $61 Billion be totally absorbed by  Jollibee which is worth just  over $1 Billion? “It’s clearly a case of David defeating Goliath,” exclaimed Jonjon San Pedro, a veteran investor.

Caktiong opened Jollibee Foods back in 1978 with two Manila ice cream parlors. Today, it has turned into the largest fast-food jollycompany in the country with numerous chains including Jollibee, Chow King, Greenwich Pizza, and more than 2,000 stores in the Philippines and 541 overseas. Furthermore, Jollibee Foods owns the Burger King franchise in the Philippines, with plans to expand to Singapore.

During the press conference, Caktiong also announced that all the remaining beef inventory of the now defunct McDonald’s will be distributed – free of charge – to small local restaurants to be used as ingredient for lumpia, the popular Filipino egg roll.

There is growing speculation that Jollibee is also considering to buy out all McDonald’s restaurants in selected U.S. cities with a large Filipino population, including Daly City, Vallejo, Los Angeles, Chicago and Jersey City.
