CNN TO MERGE WITH SWN SATIRE SITE IN THE PHILIPPINES

imageManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – First came the news that 9TV will become CNN Philippines in early 2015. Now, the international cable news network is reportedly in negotiations to acquire SWN (So What’s News?), a Filipino news satire site.

An unmaned CNN spokesperson told reporters that CNN is continuously looking to expand its operations around the world and is constantly searching for existing news media outlets to acquire or partner with.

“SWN’s mission statement is very consistent with what CNN is trying to accomplish in its international news operations,” the spokesperson said, adding that “like SWN, we are committed to bring positive, accurate, entertaining and timely news to our millions of customers. And just like SWN, we love to report on fiction.”

On its web site, SWN describes its product as “news that won’t make you depressed to read the news.” Critics who oppose the CNN-SWN merger pointed out that CNN’s reporting is known to make people very depressed,  “so a merger with SWN is not a wise move at all.”

SWN refused to comment because negotiations are still ongoing.

CNN WANTS TO HIRE RELIGIOUS SCHOLAR AFTER INFAMOUS BIGOTED SEGMENT

Atlanta, Georgia (The Adobo Chronicles) – After that embarrassing segment in which religious scholar Professor Reza Aslan slammed the bigoted questioning by anchors Don Lemon and Alysin Camerota, CNN says it wants to hire Aslan as a religious consultant.

In that CNN segment, the anchors and Aslan were discussing earlier comments made by Bill Maher on another show criticizing Muslim extremism. Aslan all but lectured Lemon and Camerota who both wouldn’t budge on their line of questioning about whether or not Islam promotes violence.

“It was a segment that we would rather forget,” CNN said, but only after video clips of the interview went viral on the Internet.

CNN said it now acknowledges that Aslan’s breath of knowledge and expetise on the issue of Islam were no match to the limited and simplistic perspective of the anchors. The cable news network added it would like to make up for this gaffe by offering Aslan a consulant position to advise its newsroom about all issues relating to Islam and the Muslim world.

Lemon and Camerota were not pleased with the network’s decision and are seriously  considering jumping ship and moving over to FOX News.

ANDERSON COOPER TO TESTIFY AT AQUINO IMPEACHMENT HEARING

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – In less than 24 hours since NoyNoy Aquino delivered his 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA), the beleaguered Philippine president is facing yet another impeachment complaint. This time it is from the Philippine Senate.

The new complaint is based on what senators called “presidential lies” in connection with Aquino’s claim during his televised speech that in less than 24 hours, the government and the Aquino administration were on the ground in Leyte and other Cental Philippine cities and towns, providing assistance and relief to victims of typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). The strongest typhoon ever to hit landfall left thousands dead and homeless and resulted in billions of pesos in damage to public and private property and infrastructure.

“Aquino violated his presidential oath to tell the truth and nothing but the truth to the Filipino people, and that is an impeachable offense,” the senators said.

A senate hearing on this new impeachment complaint is scheduled later this week. The first witness to testify will be CNN correspondent Anderson Cooper who was among the first among international journalists to report on Haiyan from ground zero.  Cooper’s reports and first-hand accounts pointed to the exact opposite of what Aquino said in his SONA.

Here is one of CNN’s broadcasts in which Cooper describes what he saw on the ground in Tacloban, Cebu and other cities.
