CALIFORNIA WELL ON ITS WAY TO BECOMING AN INDEPENDENT REPUBLIC

imageSACRAMENTO, California (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Forget about the proposed ballot initiative creating four Californias. How about making the Golden State an independent republic?

It’s just a matter of time before the world’s eighth largest economy  will become a country separate from the rest of the United States.

Already, there is a growing consensus especially among the Republicans that a great wall be built between California’s southern border with Mexico.

Now, a grassroots movement is fast gaining momentum to build a similar border between California and Oregon, which would mean the only thing left to do is to build an eastern border between California and its neighboring states, Nevada and Arizona.

The Oregon grassroots movement is fast taking shape in the real estate business.  Oregonians blame Californians for the sharp rise in home prices in their state.

‘For Sale’ signs posted in front of houses for sale in Oregon now include a mandatory ‘No California’ warning, meaning that purchase offers from Californians will not be entertained by home owners and real estate brokers.

In recent years, there has also been a significant increase in the number of Californians moving to Oregon. ‘Californians are taking over our state,’ one long-time resident of Oregon told The Adobo Chronicles®.

Oregon’s state assembly is in the process of drafting a new law that would authorize the building of a border wall with California to prevent further migration from south of the Oregon border.

GUACAMOLE SHORTAGE IN CALIFORNIA

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles® ) –  From Safeway to Whole Foods to Trader Joe’s, avocados have disappeared from grocery shelves, and the situation has created a severe shortage of guacamole  in California.

Taquerias have been serving salsa with their corn chips, minus the guacamole. The Chipotle restaurant chain has set a limit of one teaspoon of guacamole on the side for each of their popular menus. Subway has crossed out ‘avocado’ from their menu marquee.

So what’s happening?

Well, it turns out that the guacamole shortage began shortly after a new study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association concluded that contrary to popular belief, avocados help reduce cholesterol. Many people avoid avocados, thinking they’re too fattening and
that they raise blood
cholesterol.

Though avocados are high in calories for a fruit (110 to 180 per half, depending on the variety), that doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily gain weight if you eat them. And though it’s true that avocados have a lot of fat (10 to 15 grams per half), the fat—like that in olive and canola oils—is predominantly monounsaturated fat, which doesn’t raise blood cholesterol. In fact, avocados may actually help reduce cholesterol, according to the study.

As a result, heart-healthy Californians have been buying avocados in bulk from Costco, Safeway and other grocery stores.

Consequently, Walgreens, Rite-Aid and other pharmacies have noticed a significant decline in customers filling their prescriptions for lovastatin and othe cholesterol-lowering drugs.

Governor Jerry Brown has called for an emergency meeting in Sacramento this morning to address the guacamole shortage. Among the measures Brown is expected to announce is the plan to increase the state’s avocado imports from Mexico.

Expect Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to oppose the importation. The last thing Trump would like to see are Mexican avocados crossing the border into California.

CALIFORNIANS BOYCOTT THE NEW YORK TIMES OVER PEAS IN GUACAMOLE

Guacamole with green peas? Eeeww!
Guacamole with green peas?  Hell no!

SAN FRANCISCO, California ( The Adobo Chronicles® ) – You’ve heard the phrase, “Don’t mess with Texas,” before. But Californians have just made one thing clear to The New York Times and to the world: “Don’t mess with Guacamole!”

California  avocado growers, taqueria owners, and guacamole fans criticized NYT for suggesting that people add English green peas to this  avocado classic.

A NYT article written by Melissa Clark  described the peas addition as “one of those radical moves that is also completely obvious after you taste it.”

Apparently, Californians disagree and have taken to social media to call for a boycott of NYT. In just the last 24 hours, the Times has seen a significant number of subscription cancellations for both its print and digital editions.

Even popular tortilla chip brands like Frito-Lay and Doritos have joined the chorus and are reportedly adding a warning to their label and packaging: “Not to be eaten with anything that has green peas in it.”
