PHILIPPINES TO IMPORT 500 TONS OF PLASTIC WRAP TO KEEP UP WITH HIGH DEMAND AT MANILA’S AIRPORT

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The government of Philippines President NoyNoy Aquino has confirmed that it will be importing 500 tons (one million pounds) of plastic wrap from various international sources to keep up with increasing demand for the product at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport ( NAIA).

NAIA has been in the headlines recently because of a scheme called laglag bala or tanim bala in which incoming and outgoing passengers at are being questioned and detained for bullets found in their luggage as they pass through airport security. It is alleged that the bullets are being planted by airport personnel with the intent of extorting money from the unsuspecting passengers.

Passengers have resorted to wrapping their checked-in and carry-on luggage with plastic as a way of securing them from airport schemers. image

Some 33 Million passengers go through NAIA each year.  With such high volume of passengers, local manufacturers of plastic wrap just can’t keep up with the increased demand.

Plastic wrap imports from the U.S., Europe, Australia and Japan are expected to start arriving in the next two weeks, just in time for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit Meeting to be held in Manila.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Manila will see a new international airport in 2035, according to Philippine government officials.  It will be named NAIA, not to be confused with the existing NAIA.

The existing international airport is named after the late Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr., who was gunned down in 1983 upon his arrival at the Manila airport after years of exile in the U.S.

NAIA stands for “Ninoy Aquino International Airport.”

The future airport will also be called NAIA but is named after Senator Aquino’s son, NoyNoy, the Philippines’ current president.

The new NAIA  stands for “NoyNoy Aquino International Airport.”

In order to avoid confusion among pilots, airlines and travelers, the existing airport will be named NAIA-1 while the new airport will be called NAIA-2.

Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said that the decision to name the new airport after NoyNoy Aquino is to memorialize his 6-year term as president during which his administration pursued a noble path of Matuwid na Daan (Straight Path), his battle cry against graft and corruption.

The government is eyeing two potential sites for the new airport: Sangley Point in Cavite or reclaimed land in Manila Bay.

A study conducted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) showed the Philippines would have to shell out P436 billion to build the new airport.

DEAL REACHED IN RENAMING PHILIPPINE AIRPORTS AND EXPRESSWAYS AFTER THE AQUINOS

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – There had been a lot of debate over the proposal to rename the Northern Luzon Expressway (NLEX) after the late President Cory Aquino.

Many critics have commented that there seems to be a master plan to name and rename major Philippine infrastructure to permanently establish the legacy of the Aquino family. Of course, we all know that Manila’s international airport is named after Cory’s husband Ninoy (Ninoy Aquino International Airport or NAIA).

So what about the other Aquinos?

Well, a deal has been finally reached as a compromise, agreed to by no less than President NoyNoy Aquino himself. The new names will honor the president’s mother and  four sisters.

The Clark International Airport will be renamed Cory Aquino International Airport (CAIA).

The Southern Luzon Expressway  (SLEX) will be renamed Maria Elena Aquino Expressway (MEAEX)

The Northern Luzon Expressway (NLEX) will be renamed Victoria Aquino Expressway (VAEX)

The Manila North Expressway (MNEX) will be renamed Aurora Aquino Expressway (AAEX)

So what about the most famous Aquino sister, Kris?

President Aquino announced that his administration will build a new South Expressway (SEX) in Manila and will be named Kris Aquino South Expressway (KASEX).

As for the president himself, the Pan-Philippine Highway which extends from Laoag City in Northern Luzon to Zamboanga City in Mindano will be renamed NoyNoy Aquino Highway.

Hindi namin kayo malilimutan.  (We will never forget you). Long live the Aquinos!
