FACEBOOK, GOOGLE+ TO ACCOUNT HOLDERS: USE REAL NAMES ONLY OR ELSE…

Silicon Valley, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – If you have an account with Facebook or Google+, you can no longer use the name ‘The Joker.’ Unless, of course, your real first name is The and your real last name is Joker (or vice versa, since in some Asian cultures, the last name comes first before the given name, like Tran James).

The pseudonym ban has been in effect on Google+ since 2011, in keeping with the company’s common names policy. But Facebook recently joined in the bandwagon, theatening to deactivate accounts using fake names or pseudonyms.

Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence

This new policy has upset Sister Jane, Sister Lovely and Sister Biatch — all members of San Francisco’s Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. “These may not be our real names when we’re not in our religious habit, but they are not fake names when it comes to our alter persona,” Sister Jane said.  “Who would think of me as a nun if I used my real name,” Sister Biatch, whose real name is Peter Bonavich, said.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, also called Order of Perpetual Indulgence  is a charity, protest, and street performance organization that uses drag and religious imagery to call attention to sexual intolerance and satirize issues of gender and morality. At their inception in 1979, a small group of gay men in San Francisco began wearing the attire of nuns in visible situations using high camp to draw attention to social conflicts and problems in the Castro District.

The new Facebook policy seems to be backfiring.  A quick scan at Facebook accounts shows an increasing number of netizens named Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Jeremy Lin and LeBron James — real names all.

REPUBLICANS EQUATE HOMOSEXUALITY WITH ALCOHOL, CIGARETTES AND GAMBLING

Charlotte, North Carolina (The Adobo Chronicles) – First, Texas Governor Rick Perry compared being gay to alcolohism, telling a San Francisco audience last June that one can choose to stay away from both.

Then, North Carolina Republican Congressman Robert Pittenger said in Charlotte that lighting up a cigarette is a lot  like firing someone for being gay — everyone ahould be able to do it.

Finally, to complete the vice trilogy, Minnesotta Representative Michele Bachmann told  a senior citizen audience in Minneapolis today that homosexuality is no different from gambling. “You win some, you lose some. But mostly you lose ” she said, refusing to elaborate on what she meant by her statement.

Now the Republican assault on homosexuality is complete. However, as an unintended consequence, tobacco, alcohol and gaming companies have all announced that they were pulling all future campaign contributions to Republican candidates. They also said they will release a master list of Republican candidates who have received campaign funds from them since elections were invented.

NEW INTERNET DOMAIN NAME TO DEBUT IN THE PHILIPPINES: DOT PB

dot comManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – When customers want to find a business, whether it’s a local restaurant or a global retailer, the Web is the place where they first look. Domain names make it easy for customers to find items or services on the Internet.

Most domain names end with the suffix dot com or dot net.  Many countries use the suffix dot gov to make it easier for citizens and constituents to find agencies or information pertaining to the government.  Still, many countries also use a suffix that easily identifies where a web site originates or where it is located – like dot PH for Philippines, dot UK for the United Kingdom or dot AU for Australia.

Today, the Philippines’ National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) announced that it has approved a new domain name and suffix for the country: dot PB (dot Pork Barrel).  It has deemed necessary the creation of this new domain because capacity is running out for dot PH and dot gov.  But more importantly, the NTC says that there is a large enough clientele and users for this special suffix because almost all branches of the Philippine government – Executive, Legislative, Judicial – have been involved or implicated in the widespread pork barrel scandal in the country.  Even the Catholic Church appears to have benefited from taxpayer funds that were siphoned into personal accounts of politicians, fake nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and ghost projects.

In no time, Filipinos will see web addresses and domain names such as www.Senate.pb , www.MakatiMayor.pb,   or www.PNoy.pb.

Welcome to the expanding world of the Internet!
