Philippines: First Olympic Gold, Fifth Miss Universe Crown?

The Philippines has won 3 silver, 7 bronze but no gold medals since it started participating in the Olympic Games. On the brighter side, the country has had four Miss Universe title holders and is in the top 5 countries with the most crowns.

Now the country has the chance to win its first Olympic gold and its fifth Miss Universe crown.

We pin our hopes on Carlos Yulo and Gazini Ganados.

Yulo recently made headlines when he won gold in the floor exercises at the World Artistic Gymnastics in Stuttgart, Germany.  He will represent the Philippines in next year’s Tokyo Olympics.

Philippines’ Olympic medals by sport

Ganados, on the other hand,  is this year’s Philippine representative to the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant to be held in Atlanta, Georgia. Pageant predictions list her among the top favorites to win the crown, and possibly to  nail back-to-back honors for the Philippines.  The reigning Miss Universe is Filipina Catriona Gray.

In fact, odds put Ganados right behind another Asian beauty, Miss Thailand.

So what does it take for Yulo and Ganados to bring home the bacon? Twists and turns — on the exercise floor and the pageant ramp, respectively.

So, Filipinos, gird your loins.  We predict a double victory.

And, you may ask: what credentials does a satire site like The Adobo Chronicles have to make such a prediction?

Well, our motto is: sometimes, life imitates satire.  And we have proven it many times before!

New, Inexpensive Cauldron Will Be Ready For SEA Games Opening

NEW CLARK CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Bowing to pressure and criticism, the Philippine South East Asian Games Organizing Committee ( PHISGOC) headed by Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano has decided to replace the controversial P50 Million cauldron with a simpler, inexpensive structure.

PHISGOC has promised that the replacement cauldron will be ready by the Games’ opening ceremonies on November 30.

The new design was inspired by a giant Christmas tree being built in Baguio for the city’s festivities which begin on December 1.

Cayetano said that instead of a kaldero, the peak of the structure will have a star adorned with electronic Christmas lights. “It will save us a huge amount of money since we will not have to spend on fuel to light it up for the duration of the Games,” Cayetano said.

Let the Games begin!

Senators To Push For 1/2 Renewal Of ABS-CBN’s Franchise?

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – A small group of Senators identified with both the Administration and Opposition is reportedly considering to push for the renewal of ABS-CBN’s broadcast franchise which expires on March 30 next year.

We spoke with the group on condition of anonymity.

As a compromise to the growing clamor for the non-renewal of the network’s franchise, the group says it will file a bill to renew  1/2 of the broadcast license — just the entertainment portion of it.

What this means is that ABS-CBN will not be allowed to continue its biased news operations.  ABS-CBN is known for its “Teeeeeevey Patrol,” “Nagbabagang balita (smouldering news)” and “Hexclusives.”

The compromise seems to have the support of the majority of the Senators, especially Senator Grace Poe who is closely associated with the forever-running teleserye, “Ang Probinsiyano.”

The government’s communications arm, the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) is poised to take possession of ABS-CBN’s news facilities if the Senate proposal is approved.
