MCDONALD’S SIGN LANGUAGE DRIVE THRU VS. JOLLIBEE’S MULTILINGUAL ORDERING SYSTEM

SILICON VALLEY, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – The fast food industry is going high-tech, thanks to many innovations introduced by Silicon Valley companies.

McDonald’s has just unveiled its first drive-thru that enables the hearing-impaired to use sign language when ordering their burgers and fries.

The new technology uses a two-way camera at the ordering station where McDonald’s  trained staff can see and  be seen by customers. They communicate by sign language.

McDonald’s biggest competitor, Jollibee, is not far behind in using technology.  The Philippine-owned fast food restaurant has gone multilingual as a way to attract a more diverse clientele.

When ordering at the counter or at the drive-thru where available, customers speak into a portable tablet, with Google Translate app installed, ordering in their choice of language.  The computer then detects the language and translates the order for the Jollibee staff. Monolingual staff can now take the orders in any language — from English to Spanish, to French, while non-Tagalog customers can order in a breeze —  in their own language!

The competition heats up between McDonald’s and Jollibee!

PASSPORT AND VISA PROCESSING CENTER TO BE SET UP ABOARD INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION

The International Space Station

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles) – Recent space discoveries including flowing water on Mars and orbiting massive structures around remote star galaxies all but confirm the existence of life beyond the Earth planet, and earthlings are being proactive about it.

The United States, Russia, Japan, Canada and the European states have unanimously agreed to set up a passport and visa processing center aboard the International Space Center (ISS).

The move will enable aliens in space to secure entry permits should they decide to visit Earth. The aliens will be given visas for a maximum  of 30 days but will have to prove that their visit is for the sole purpose of tourism.

Representatives from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as well as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will be assigned at the space station to process the passport and visa applications for the U.S. Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump says he fully supports the move.

Aliens or alien structures that attempt to land on Earth without the proper passport and visa documents will be treated as  hostile visitors and will be met with full military intervention.

The only remaining issue to be resolved among the Earth governments is to determine the currency to be charged to the alien applicants for their passports or visas.  Will it be the U.S. or Canadian dollar, Yen, Euro or the Ruble?

APPLE TO RECALL MILLIONS OF IPHONES AND IPADS AFTER LOSING PATENT LAWSUIT

imageMADISON, Wisconsin (The Adobo Chronicles) – If you have an iPhone 5S, 6 or 6 Plus, or the later generation iPad, you could be receiving a recall email message from Apple.

A U.S. jury on Tuesday found the company accountable for using processor chip  technology owned by the University of Wisconsin-Madison without permission  in many of its iPhones and iPads.

The jury in Madison, Wisconsin, also said the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) patent, which improves processor efficiency, was valid. The trial will now move on to determine how much Apple owes in damages.

Apple could face up to $862 million in damages for patent infringement.

Rather than paying the damages,  and in an effort to maintain its integrity among loyal Apple fanatics, the company has chosen to recall the phones and tablets in question, and will replace them with all-new devices using Apple-owned processor chips.

Replacement could take as long as  six months.  Apple has to open new factories in China and the Philippines in order to manufacture the replacement phones.
