Love Fest Between Filipinos (Except Media) And Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Love continues to blossom between the Filipinos and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg.

First, Facebook launched free Internet in the Philippines in order to enable more Filipinos to have access to important information via their mobile devices.

Now, Zuckerberg is providing Filipino netizens with the opportunity to watch the June 30 inauguration of President-elect Rod Duterte, live!

Alas, not all Filipinos are happy — notably Philippine media.

Earlier, Duterte cancelled all media briefings after the incoming president castigated journalists for their sensationalized coverage of the Davao City mayor.  The Duterte camp has been channeling its public information mostly through the state-owned People’s Television Network (PTV-4).

Facebook’s live streaming of the Duterte inauguration will ensure a much wider people’s access to the June 30 national event.

Meanwhile, reliable sources have confirmed that there has been a sharp increase in the number of Filipino journalists who have sent resumes and job applications to various call centers and BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) companies operating in Manila and other cities.

Is biased journalism a dying profession in the Philippines?  Let’s see what happens in the next 6 years of the Duterte administration.

New Study: Cell Phone Use Increases I.Q.

image.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – For many years now, a debate has been raging on whether or not radiation caused by cell phone use can lead to cancer.  Now a new study brings some good news to all who have adopted mobile technology.

Scientists from the Radiological Institute of the Philippines (R.I.P.) have discovered a previously unknown radioactive wave that seems to confirm that excessive cell phone use can increase one’s I.Q.

The study involved 1,000 participants — 50% of whom used mobile phones at least eight times a day while the remaining 50% used mobile phones less than three times per week.

The result?  Those who used their cell phones daily and excessively had an I.Q. of 120-140 (very superior intelligence), compared with those who used the phones sparingly who had an I.Q. of 90-110 (normal to average).

The new study comes as very good news for Filipinos, considering that the Philippines is recognized as the texting capital of the world.

It is estimated that there are 106 Million cell phone owners in the Philippines, more than its current population of 100 Million.  This means that about  6 Million Filipinos own two or more cell phones each.

Don’t mess with smart Filipinos!

COMELEC: Change In Hash Code Was Mere Cosmetic

image.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – As the vote count in the May 9 Philippine elections reached more than 90%, the camp of vice presidential aspirant Senator Bongbong Marcos had asked to stop the count while seeking an investigation into a suspicious new script computer command allegedly fed to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) transparency server.

The Marcos camp said that the introduction of the command, known in technical jargon as “hash code” could have very well altered the vote count.

The unofficial vote count began with Marcos leading his closest rival, Leni Robredo, by almost 1,000 votes.  Marcos said that his vote count suspiciously started a downward trend right after the hash code was changed.

As of press time, Robredo leads the VP race by more than 220,000 votes, with almost 96% of precincts reporting.

Today, the COMELEC said that the introduction of the new hash code did not affect the data and vote count.  “It was purely cosmetic,” the poll body assured.

However, COMELEC declined to  disclose whether the cosmetic change was done by Mary Kay, Revlon, Kokuryu or some other cosmetic company.
