MANILA’S INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT INSTALLS HEATERS BY MISTAKE

imageManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – If you are planning to travel to the Philippines in the next  few months, be prepared for extreme hot temperatures when you land at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila.

NAIA’s reputation as one of the worst airports in the world has been exacerbated by airconditioning problems in its terminals, with incoming and outgoing passengers describing the terminal as a dry sauna. So it was a welcome relief when the airport administration finally received the shipment of 36 airconditioning units it had ordered from Japan. With much fanfare, Angel Hornado, general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority, announced last week that the installation of the new units would begin and will be completed in three working days.

Like with all projects in the Philippines, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was scheduled Saturday to mark the official switching on of the new airconditioning units. Presidential sister, actress and television host Kris Aquino was invited as honored guest to cut the ribbon. “It’s quite an emotional moment for me,” she said.  NAIA was, of course, named after her dad who was assassinated at the same airport upon his return from exile during the Marcos years.

Then Hornado flashed a thumbs up to signal the switching on of the cooling units.  In less than 15 minutes, all units were functioning and guests and passengers could hear the soft humming of the fans that started to blow air into the sprawling, albeit crowded terminal.

But something was obviously terribly wrong. The new units were blowing hot air and they added to the already warm and humid temperature inside the terminal.

Immediately, an aide came rushing towards Hornado and whispered, “Sir, the units that were installed were actually heaters!”

Apparently, something was lost in translation when the airconditioning units were ordered from Japan.

For now, NAIA remains the hottest airport in the world.

Las Vegas, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles) – iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, and now what? iPeed?

Apple, the leading manufacturer of computers and smart mobile devices, has just announced its newest product, the iPeed. It was unveiled at a developer conference held this morning at the Mandalay Bay conference center in Las Vegas.

The new device is geared towards busy mothers of newborn babies as well as their baby sitters. It is an early-warning device clipped to baby diapers which sends a signal to the mother’s or baby sitter’s iPhone or other mobile device. When the baby pees, the device immediately senses the bioactivity and sends a beeping sound to the bluetooth-connected device.  This will then alert the adults of the need to change the baby’s diaper.

Right now, the iPeed can only be used with iOS devices. Android users will have to wait another year for a compatible version.

The iPeed will retail for $29.99, iPhone or mobile device not included.

PHILIPPINES BAGS ANOTHER WORLD RECORD: TWEET CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The Philippines is unstoppable in laying claim to world records, and this nation of 100 Million people just added another feather to its cap.

First, the country was declared selfie capital of the world, particularly Makati City, recording the highest (per capita) number of selfies posted on social media.

Just last weekend, the Philippine Arena with a capacity of 60,000 was inaugurated. It is now considered the world’s largest indoor arena, putting to shame Los Angeles’ Staples Center and New York’s Madison Square Garden.

On Monday, the Philippines broke another world record and was named the Tweet Capital of the World.

Twitter records show that worldwide, people send an average of 500 Million tweets a day.

On Monday, Twitter recorded 1 Billion tweets in the Philippines alone, twice the worldwide daily numbers. Monday, of course, was the day that President NoyNoy Aquino delivered his 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Filipinos were tweeting at a rate of  one per five minutes, commenting on Aquino’s  almost two-hour rambling as well as critiquing  the gowns worn on the red carpet by lady senators, congressmen, spouses and SONA guests. Even senators, congressmen and government officials were caught on camera, tweeting away while inside the Assembly Hall, oblivious of the man at the podium they have come to listen to.

We say again, ‘It’s More Fun in the Philippines!’
