American Society Of Newspaper Editors Embrace Fake News As Part Of The Fourth Estate

IMG_1030.PNGWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chroniclers, Washington Bureau) – U.S. President Donald Trump has complained about it.  So has supporters of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. FOX News and CNN have been accused of it.  And netizens overwhelmingly rely on it to keep up with current events.

So, in a historic move, the American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE), meeting in Washington D.C. over the weekend, has adopted a resolution officially embracing fake news as an integral part of the Fourth Estate.

In a statement announcing the resolution, ASNE said that the newspaper industry — and its online incarnations — can no longer ignore the impact of fake news on the lives of everyday Americans and citizens of the world. “The more fake news is repeated, shared and tweeted, the more it becomes reality,” the statement said. “So it is time to embrace it as part of our industry.”

Meanwhile, the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), the broadcast counterpart of ASNE, is reportedly considering a similar resolution that would apply to its members  in the radio, television and digital news media.

Fake news is not a modern phenomenon.  It has existed way back during the time of Truman and Dewey.

And it’s here to stay.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – UN Rapporteur Agnes Callamard who visited the Philippines this week for purely academic purposes and not on official mission, said she had nevertheless personally seen evidence of summary killings connected to President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.

In an exclusive interview with The Adobo Chronicles, Callamard listed all the evidence she personally encountered while in Manila:

  • She had dinner with Commission on Human Rights Chair Chito Gascon
  • She had a private screening of Leni Robredo’s video message to a UN conference where the Vice President talked about summary killings under Duterte’s war on drugs
  • She read archived issues of The Philippine Daily Inquirer
  • While in her hotel room, she googled Rappler to review stories about 7,000 plus killed in the war on drugs
  • She watched ABS-CBN and GMA News, and occasionally, CNN Philippines 🇵🇭
  • She exchanged text messages with Jim Paredes, Cynthia Patag, Leah Navarro, Raissa Robles and Atty. Jesus Falcis
  • She had a phone conversation with jailed Senator Leila De Lima
  • She had a courtesy call with Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) President Socrates Villegas.
  • Carlos Celdran acted as her tour guide throughout her Manila stay
  • She personally witnessed student 👨‍🎓 and faculty demonstrations against Duterte while on her way to her speaking engagement at the University of the Philippines

Asked if she made an effort to meet with Philippine National Police Director General Ronald ‘Bato’ de la Rosa, Callamard said that she didn’t find it necessary since she already had all the first-hand information she needed to prepare a comprehensive report to the UN.

Meanhile, Callamard categorically denied that she has been hired as a paid consultant of the Liberal Party as recently revealed in Wikipedia.

What Rappler Did Not Tell You When Googling About ‘Psychopath Philippines’

IMG_1056MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It must have been a slow news day that Rappler’s major story was about googling the words, ‘Psychopath Philippines.’  🇵🇭 The online news source’s point was that when you do a Google search of the two words, the results are dominated by President Rodrigo Duterte.

It will be recalled that Philippine actress Agot Isidro once took to her social media account and called Duterte a ‘psychopath.’

What Rappler failed to mention (or deliberately omitted) in its story is that when one does a Google or Facebook search of ‘Idiot Isidro,’ the results will be dominated by — who else — the idiot actress who started it all.
