MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Subject to fact-checking by Rappler – Ellen Tordesillas of Vera Files is so enjoying her new-found power to fact-check news and information posted on social media, particularly on Facebook.
Vera Files and Rappler were recently designated partners of Facebook in the social media giant’s worldwide program to curb the spread of fake news on its platform.
Tordesillas wants Vera Files’ fact-check to be user-friendly, so she is introducing icons that would warn netizens that what they are reading on Facebook are false, satire, SPAM, biased, etc.
Here are the fact-checking icons Vera Files will be using, effective immediately:
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Subject to fact-checking by Rappler and Vera Files) – A lot can happen within just a few hours, including a complete turnaround in statements by Vice President Leni Robredo.
At 8:21 PM on 4/19/18, Robredo tweeted that with truth on her side, she will overcome, referring to the ongoing recount of the 2016 Vice Presidential election ballots.
Then, at 3:00 AM on 4/20/18, the VP tweeted it was imminent that Bongbong Marcos will triumph in his electoral protest.
Robredo’s sudden change of heart is most likely part of damage control where the recount could potentially diminish her narrow lead in the 2016 elections. Already, her lead has been reduced by 5,000 votes. It’s called saving face.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Subject to fact-checking by Rappler and Vera Files – In a single tweet, Ellen Tordesillas of Vera Files accused Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte of supplying weapons to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Duterte is facing a complaint before ICC for alleged crimes against humanity.
Tordesillas’ latest tirade against Duterte follows her previous accusation that the president is the No. 1 source of fake news.
The Adobo Chronicles talked to Tordesillas as she was leaving a television studio where she figured in an embarrassing interview where she aaaah’d and uuuuhm’d when asked about her working definition of fake news.
Tordesillas said that the weapons supplied by Duterte to ICC includes Uzi’s, semi-automatic rifles, multi-calibre guns and other assault ammunition.
The Adobo Chroniclescould not immediately fact-check Tordesillas’ claim.
