Facebook Withdraws Fact Check Partnership With Rappler, Citing Lack Of Sense Of Humor

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – Facebook has withdrawn its Internet fact-checking partnership with Rappler, citing the Maria Ressa-owned online news source for lack of sense of humor.

Mark Zuckerberg announced the withdrawal just minutes after Rappler fact-checked photos of what was supposed to be a Labor Day rally in Manila. The photos had placards bearing a humorous take on demands of Labor Day rallyists (see photos). Rappler tagged both photos as ‘fake.’

”We cannot partner with a fact-checker that can’t even recognize satire, lampoon, cartoons and other forms of sarcastic and humorous art forms,” Zuckerberg told The Adobo Chronicles. “Rappler is taking its fact-checking work too seriously,” he added.

Earlier, Rappler fact-checked a satirical post on The Adobo Chronicles which made fun of Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque’s statement that Rappler could still cover Malacañang as a member of the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP). The Adobo article claimed that Ressa was elected president of FOCAP. Rappler claimed the article to be false. (Like we didn’t already know).

Usec Mocha Uson Slams TIME Magazine For Use Of Duterte Image On Its Cover

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s inclusion in the latest TIME Magazine cover story on “Rise of the Strongman,” drew varied reaction in the Philippines.

Many Filipinos expressed pride in their President being lumped with other world leaders. Still others used the cover story to argue about their claim that Duterte is either Authoritarian or a Dictator.

But Undersecretary Mocha Uson of the PCOO had a different take on the whole thing. She slammed TIME for using an unauthorized image of Duterte on the cover. The image shows the Philippine President wearing the same black coat and blue tie as the rest of the world leaders in the photo.

”Duterte would never wear the exact attire as the world leaders, especially that blue tie,” Uson told The Adobo Chronicles. “TIME should have been more culturally sensitive by using an image of Duterte in his favorite Barong Tagalog,” she added.

Or that checkered shirt, maybe?

U.P. Diliman To Implement A New Rule For Incoming Male Students

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – The much-delayed release of the results of the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) is scheduled for today, April 30.

But for incoming male students at U.P. Diliman, passing the entrance exams is not enough.

According to a new requirement set by the U.P. Diliman Board of Regents, all incoming male students will have to undergo a physical exam.

The Board said that it wanted to make sure that the new students will not cause any embarrassment to the University should they decide to participate in the campus’ annual Oblation Run where male students run around naked as part of a protest against a chosen political issue.

A member of the Board of Regents spoke to The Adobo Chronicles on condition of anonymity and he said that the Board wants to make sure that the incoming male students “ay malaki ang hinaharap,” (They have a bright future)
