Following Indonesia’s Lead, Duterte Mulls Moving Philippines’ Capital To Davao City

Selamat Datang Monument (Selamat Datang is Indonesian for “Welcome”), also known as the Monumen Bundaran HI or Monumen Bunderan HI, is a monument located in Central Jakarta, Indonesia. Completed in 1962, Selamat Datang Monument is one of the historic landmarks of Jakarta.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Sometimes, world leaders follow Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s lead (withdrawal from the International Criminal Court, war on illegal drugs).  Then sometimes, Duterte follows the lead of other world leaders.

Indonesia is set to move its capital from congested Jakarta  and off the main island of Java.

That lit a bulb light for Duterte who is now mulling moving the Philippines’ capital from overcrowded, filthy, traffic-ridden and overrated Manila to the beautiful, peaceful, law-abiding and stress-free city of Davao.

There are also unconfirmed reports that the President also wants to move the country’s Summer Capital from Baguio City to the new, improved and cleansed Boracay.

Why Rappler Reporter Was Barred From Covering Tuberculosis Prevention Event In Malacañang

36002BAC-74A7-46C3-8851-42313199DC9AMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Once again, Rappler has been barred from covering an event at Malacañang, this time the launch of a government initiative to end tuberculosis, where President Rodrigo Duterte will be in attendance.

Like clockwork, Rappler immediately cried foul and “suppression of Press Freedom.”

But Malacañang and the Department of Health today issued a statement on the real reason the Rappler reporter was not issued accreditation to cover the event.

Tuberculosis is a highly contagious bacterial infection that can quickly spread if not caught, isolated, and treated early. It is an airborne disease, and can be caught by breathing in the air that an infected person has contaminated through breathing or coughing,” the statement said.

It continued:

”Since this is a TB prevention event, we wanted to make sure that all in attendance would be free of the bacteria and prevent them from infecting others, including the President. We therefore required attendees and members of the news media to submit a health clearance, showing  a negative TB test.”

”The Rappler reporter failed to submit the required clearance, hence she was barred from covering the Malacañang event.”

Moral of the story: Press Freedom is not a substitute for a health clearance.

PCIJ To Investigate Itself, Rappler And Vera Files Over Allegations Of Their Role In Duterte Ouster Plot

99F5B22E-6B6A-45AC-9DC3-DAB3951370B6MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) today told The Adobo Chronicles that it will launch a comprehensive and in-depth investigation of itself and two other media entities —Rappler and Vera Files over allegations that all three have been involved in a foreign-funded plot to oust Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

The exposé about the plot was revealed today in a banner story published by the respected and oldest Philippine newspaper, The Manila Times.

We asked PCIJ how it could be impartial in investigating the matter when results could potentially incriminate itself as well as their allies Rappler and Vera Files.

”Well, we stand by our investigative expertise, our journalistic integrity and our loyalty to our foreign funders to prove to all that we are innocent of the allegations,” a spokesperson said.

Well, it seems like they have already reached a conclusion before their investigation even started.

It’s a sorry state of Philippine media today.
