JOVER LAURIO IS SAFARI MAGAZINE’S “animal of the year”

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Be careful what you wish for.

Moments after Pinoy Ako Blog’s Jover Laurio tweeted that Tatay (President Rodrigo Duterte) wasn’t included in PeopleAsia magazine’s 2020-21 “People of the Year” list because he would be under the “Animal of the Year” category, she received a surprising word from the international Safari magazine.

Laurio was named the magazine’s “Animal of the Year,” besting dozens of animals in the shortlist, and sharing the honor with the hippopotamus.

It was a dream come true for Laurio, who after being once named “Person of the Year” by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, had been aspiring year after year to be honored by an international magazine, just like her idol Maria Ressa.

Congratulations to PAB!

LENI ROBREDO CRITICIZES TIME’S CHOICE OF PERSON(S) OF THE YEAR

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo today criticized TIME magazine’s pick of the 2020 “Person(s) of the Year,” calling it unfair and biased.

TIME announced this morning that it has chosen President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as this year’s honorees.

(The choice of Kamala Harris seems to be unfair and biased, while when I won as Vice President of the Philippines in 2016, I was not even included in TIME’s short list or long list (for the Person of the Year). Just like Harris, I was also Vice President, a woman and a person of color..)

As of press time, the editors of TIME have not responded to Robredo’s criticism.

The Adobo Chronicles, however, has named Robredo its (Other) “Woman of the Year) just last week.

RAPPLER DIDN’T QUITE GET COURT’S DECISION TO DENY MARIA RESSA’S PLEA FOR U.S. TRAVEL

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Online news source Rappler seems to be confused about the difference between a court “ruling” and “opinion.”

While almost all news media outlets have reported that the Court of Tax Appeals ruled to deny Maria Ressa’s plea to travel to the U.S., Rappler reported that the Court “ruled” that conviction is not a reason to bar travel,” giving the impression that their CEO can now travel to the Land of the Free and the Brave.

But the bottom line is that the Court ruled to deny Ressa’ plea, regardless of its “opinion” that conviction is no reason to ban travel by the convicted.

Ressa was convicted of cyber libel. She is appealing her conviction.
