MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In her fiercest attack yet on Rodrigo Duterte, Leni Robredo is calling the President a copycat of the late Cory Aquino.
Robredo was reacting to Duterte’s recent statement that if provoked, he will declare a revolutonary war to deal with government corruption.
”Ginawa na yan dati ni Pangulong Cory Aquino. Wala namang originality si Duterte,” Robredo said . (President Cory Aquino already did that. Dutere has no originality.)
Aquino declared a revolutionary government when she took over as President from the deposed Ferdinand E. Marcos.
’We have to follow the Constitution, unlike Cory,” she added.
Political analysts are confused about Robredo’s statement. They weren’t sure if the VP was criticizing Duterte or Aquino.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon on Thursday suggested that the Senate should reopen its investigation on illegal drugs amid the fresh “very serious” allegations against former Davao vice mayor and presidential son Paolo Duterte.
Drilon made the suggestion after a video linking the former Davao vice mayor to drugs circulated in social media.
The Adobo Chronicles caught up with Drilon soon after waking up from a nap at the Senate Session Hall and asked him what was the intention for his suggestion.
His reply:
”I was asleep all throughout the first Senate hearing. I didn’t get to hear what Paolo Duterte had to say about illegal drugs. As a hard-working Senator, I just wanted to make sure I have all the first-hand information to be able to make informed decisions.”
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – One big difference between Duterte critics Rappler CEO Maria Ressa and retired entertainer Jim Paredes is that Ressa will not give up her dual citizenship no matter what.
But Paredes is the opposite. He told The Adobo Chronicles he is happy to let go of one of his citizenships if only to show the world that he is truly sorry about that viral sex video which has brought shame and scandal to both his (dual) citizenships.
”Today, I am announcing that I will voluntarily renounce my senior citizenship in order to protect the dignity and reputation of my country’s senior citizens,” Paredes, 67, said.
