Minneapolis, Minnesota (The Adobo Chronicles) – Republican Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann staged her strongest attack yet against environmentalists who claim that global warming is responsible for the recent weird changes in the world’s weather pattern.

“Global warming is a myth and has no basis in science,” Bachmann said. She used this week’s weather forecast in her home state to debunk claims that the world is getting warmer and warmer.

Acccording to weather forecasts, Minnesota wll experience an entire week beginning Tuesday of below freezing temperatures from below to mid 20’s (freezing temperatures begin at 32 degrees F).image

“How can environmentalists claim global warming when right here in my state, we are freezing,” Bachamann said.

Bachmann made the comments as international negotiators gathering in Lima, Peru for climate change talks have agreed on a plan to fight global warming that would for the first time commit all countries to cutting their greenhouse gas emissions.

MICHIGAN WILL START ISSUING LICENSES TO DISCRIMINATE

FINALDetroit, Michigan (The Adobo Chronicles) – By virtue of a recent circuit court decision to reverse an earlier ruling by a federal judge striking down the state’s ban on gay marriage, Michigan remains among the 15 states in the U.S. that continue to deny the granting of marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

But Michigan is a step closer to being the first U.S. state to issue licenses to discriminate.

The Michigan Republican-led House has approved a bill — the Religious Freedom Restoration Act — that would let individuals or businesses seek exemptions to government regulations they feel substantially burden their sincerely-held religious beliefs.

This means that gay men and women, Atheists, pro-choice individuals and others may be denied services on the basis of religious beliefs held by individuals and businesses.

In anticipation of the bill’s approval by the Republican-led state senate and subsequent signature by Republican Governor Rick Snyder, the Michigan State Attorney General’s Office has announced that it has started to print official licenses to discriminate. It will start issuing the licenses on January 2, 2015.

The licenses can be obtained upon payment of a $50 fee.  The licenses are valid for a period of 3 months, subject to renewal.

So if you’re planning to discriminate all year-round, be prepared to cough up $200 per year.

NEW CALIFORNIA STATE LEGISLATOR DAVID CHIU COMES OUT, WANTS TO JOIN THE LEGISLATIVE LGBT CAUCUS

Sacramento, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Newly-sworn-in California Assemblyman David Chiu (D-San Francisco) just stepped out of the closet.

He wants to become a member of the California Legislative LGBT Caucus.

Formed in June 2002, the caucus’ role is to present a forum for the legislature to discuss issues that affect LGBT Californians and to further the goal of equality and justice for all.  The formation of the caucus made California the first state in the nation to recognize an official caucus of openly-LGBT state legislators.

Caucus members include Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), Senator Mark Leno (D-San Francisco/San Mateo), and Assemblymember Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco) .  It is currently chaired by Assemblymember Richard Gordon (D-Menlo Park).

The caucus recently welcomed it newest member, Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Campbell).

It remains unclear if the  LGBT Caucus will revise its rules to allow membership for either a straight legislator, or a legislator who comes out at lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender AFTER being elected. Whichever is the case for Chiu.

The Adobo Chronicles is closely monitoring this developing story.

UPDATING: San Francisco Supervisor John Avalos commended Chiu for wanting to join the LGBT caucus.  He said : “That’s awesome. Maybe he can join the African American, Women’s and Latino caucuses as well.”  Maybe Chiu will.
