Senator Grace Poe Bats For Partial Renewal Of ABS-CBN Franchise

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) –  Senator Grace Poe is being true to form both as an advocate against fake news and a loving daughter to the late Fernando Poe, Jr. (FPJ).

Today, she filed a Senate resolution calling for the partial renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise which expires this March.

The divisive issue pits those who are for the non-renewal of the franchise against those who are for renewal.

Poe wants to renew the entertainment portion of the franchise while cancelling the broadcast network’s news operations.

ABS-CBN, besides being cited for tax evasion and violation of labor laws, is also accused of being a purveyor of fake, biased news.

”We must continue our crusade against fake news, but we also need to seriously consider the feelings of millions of Filipinos who follow the long-running FPJ’s “Ang Probinsyano” and other teleseryes and variety shows on ABS-CBN,” Poe told The Adobo Chronicles.

Inquirer Names Leni Robredo 2019 Other Woman Of The Year

MANILA, Philppines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The long-awaited news is here.  The Philippines Daily Inquirer (PDI) has released its choice for the 2019 Filipino of the Year.

However, PDI decided to rename the annual award to more accurately reflect the gender of its honoree.

PDI has named Vice President Leni Robredo as the 2019 Other Woman of the Year.

Earlier, PDI editors voted to give the Woman of the Year award to Rappler CEO Maria Ressa who respectfully declined the honor because she says it is a “step-down” from her collection of international awards, including several she had received from TIME magazine.

So instead, PDI decided to give the award to their first runner-up, Robredo.  Hence the title, “Other Woman of the Year.”

Duterte, Robredo Prove Maria Ressa Wrong On Free Speech

MANILA, Philippies(The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – For quite some time now, Maria Ressa has accused the Philippine government of curtailing her rights to free speech, constantly mouthing that the “law is being weaponized” to silence her online news source, Rappler.

But no less than the two highest officials of the land have proven Ressa wrong.

In recent days where there has been some exchanges between President Rodrigo Duterte and VP Leni Robredo over the former’s war on drugs, Ressa’s claims have all but gone down the drain.

Robredo has called Duterte (and his war on drugs) a “massive failure,” while the President has called the VP a “colossal failure.”

Proof that free speech is alive and well in the Philippines.
