PHILIPPINES’ PRESIDENT AQUINO, THE GREAT STATISTICIAN

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – It’s all a matter of statistics.

Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino said the laglag bala (bullet planting) incidents at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) had been sensationalized, as there was only a small percentage—1,200 cases reported—out of the 34 million people who passed through the airport.

In recent weeks, several passengers had complained about airport security officials who allegedly found bullets in their luggage and had demanded money in exchange for being allowed to board their flight instead of being hauled to court . Most of the passengers claimed that the bullets had been planted in their luggage by the security personnel themselves.

In another development, Aquino said he remains confident that his anointed successor, former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, will win in the 2016 presidential elections, despite national polls showing Roxas behind frontrunner Senator Grace Poe and practically neck and neck with Vice President Jejomar Binay and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

“Again, it is being sensationalized,” Aquino said of the polls.  “The polls survey only a couple thousand respondents.  Compare that to the Philippines’ total population of 100 Million!  It’s not even a small drop in a bucket.”

What a great statistician, uhm, we mean statesman President Aquino is!

LAGLAG BALA: TOURISM SECRETARY TELLS FILIPINOS, MEDIA TO SHUT UP

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Hush!  Philippine Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. urged Filipinos and the media to STFU (shut up) because it is hurting the country’s tourism industry.

Jimenez was referring to the laglag bala  or tanim bala scheme at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in which airport personnel allegedly “plant” bullets in bags of unsuspecting airline passengers in order to extort money.

Speaking at a weekly forum at the Luneta Hotel, Jimenez said reports on the tanim bala demonstrate the media’s tendency to discuss issues “to death until it actually injures our own interest.”

“I am very concerned on both ends of it — not only because it is a symptom of corruption that we have yet to uproot, it is also a symptom that sometimes as a country we don’t know when to stop talking about something,” he said.

Jimenez went as far as recommending to President Aquino to change the administration’s anti-corruption mantra from Daang Matuwid (straight path) to Daang Matahimik (quiet path).

ROCK HILL, South Carolina ( The Adobo Chronicles ) – While the Republicans are working hard to exclude the liberal media from the GOP presidential debates, the Democrats have decided to be  more inclusive — by including the candidates’ spouses.

The next debate — technically being called a ‘forum’  — will be held Friday, November 6 at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. It will be aired on MSNBC and hosted by Rachel Maddow.

Unlike the crowded Republican field, the Democratic presidential contenders are now down to three, after Governor Lincoln Chafee and Senator Jim Webb suspended their campaigns.

With only three candidateas left  — Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley — MSNBC struggled with the fact that three candidates in a two-hour forum won’t be enough to fill the entire time slot.

So, the ever-brilliant Maddow came up with the idea of including the candidates’ spouses, and to focus the discussion on the American family.

So, come November 6,  make way for Bill Clinton, Katie O’Malley and Jane Sanders.

Maddow has asked viewers to send her questions for the candidates and their spouses — “questions that we don’t already know the answers to ” she stressed.

So no questions on Monica Lewinski, please.
