We were quoted and misquoted.  We were translated into different languages. We received fan mail and hate mail. We rattled the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines.  We upset Hollywood. We even invented a new word: ‘ selfitis.’

Four years and we’re still having so much fun.

We hope you are, too, and if not, that’s perfectly fine as well.

Here’s to the next four!

Philippine Government Inaugurates Free Wi-Fi Service For Filipinos

IMG_2143MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – As a fitting celebration of the Philippines’ Independence Day, the government tody inaugurated its free wi-fi service for Filipinos, starting with the entire stretch of EDSA, Metro Manila’s main thoroughfare.

The always reliable GMA News is also reporting that when completed, the project — a campaign promise by President Rodrigo Duterte — will extend all the way to Cuba!

Senator Rissa Hontiveros Hires Raissa Robles As Her Press Secretary

IMG_2125MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – What Georgina Hernandez is to Vice President Leni Robredo is now what Raissa Robles is to Senator Risa Hontiveros.

The senator has taken a lot of flak lately for her public statements claiming that the Maute siege on Marawi City does not constitute rebellion nor invasion, hence it could not justify President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao.

Admitting a lack of professional advice on her public statements, Hontiveros told The Adobo Chronicles that perhaps it was time for her to hire a spokesperson.

It wasn’t difficult for Hontiveros to find the right person for the job.  Blogger Raissa Robles was the first person to cross her mind.

Hontiveros and Robles are both anti-Martial Law, and anti-Duterte. They’re both women. Neither of them are necessarily the epitome of smartness. Robles thinks she is a journalist, and a journalist is what Hontiveros needs (She can’t rely on her sister who is a CNN Philippines anchor because that would  constitute a conflict of interest.) Plus their names are almost a perfect match: Rissa, Raissa.

So a Hontiveros-Robles tandem is a match made in heaven. Or hell, depending on how you look at it.

Congratulations to Robles for her new gig. It will make up for her failed book on the Marcos Martial Law.  Perhaps a Duterte Martial Law would  earn her more bucks if she writes a better book. That is, if her new employer would give her enough time off to write a new book.
