Inquirer Columnist Richard Heydarian’s Brain Goes Blank, Newspaper Issues Erratum

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In his desperate attempt to criticize Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s foreign policy, Inquirer columnist Richard Heydarian’s brain went blank.

But Inquirer says the newspaper doesn’t pay for empty columns, so it asked Heydarian to fill in the blank.

Heydarian did and Inquirer published an erratum:

Ellen Tordesillas Says P50K Given By VP Robredo To Fishermen Is Bribe And Stolen Money

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau – subjectnto fact-checking by Rappler and Vera Files) – It took a veteran journalist and fact checker to call a spade a spade when it comes to the P50,000 given by Vice President Leni Robredo to each of the 22 Filipino fishermen involved in the maritime incident with a Chinese vessel in the West Philippine Sea.

Robredo had said that the money givento the fishermen came from private contributions to her flagship program, Angat Buhay.

But in one tweet, Tordesillas debunked Robredo’s claim and said that these were stolen funds given as bribe to the fishermen so they can continue to tow the anti-Chinese line espoused by the news media and the political Opposition.

Here’s Tordesillas Twitter message:

Nazi Propagandist Joseph Goebbels’ Estate To Sue Maria Ressa For Plagiarism

BERLIN, Germany (The Adobo Chronicles, Berlin Bureau) – Whether testifying in the Senate on the issue of fake news, or delivering an award acceptance speech at Columbia University, one of Maria Ressa’s favorite line is. “A lie told a thousand times becomes the truth.”

But that favorite line has gotten the Rappler CEO in big trouble. It now appears that it is not an original quote from Resaa, but a plagiarized one from no less than Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.

Goebbels’ estate announced today in Berlin that it is suing Ressa for plagiarism and seeking an undisclosed amount for damages. She could also face imprisonment in a now defunct concentration camp.

”Someone claiming to be a journalist and a recipient of many international awards and honors for her journalistic work should know better by giving credit where credit is due,” the estate told The Adobo Chronicles.

Meanwhile, Time Magazine, Columbia School of Journalism and other international awards bodies are considering stripping Ressa of her awards, honors and citations.

’Plagiarism gives journlism a very bad name, and we won’t tolerate it,” Columbia Journalism School Dean Sheila Coronel said today in New York.
