ONE MILLION TO DESCEND UPON INDIANAPOLIS FOR THIS YEAR’S INDIANA GAY PRIDE

CCINP-LogoINDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (The Adobo Chronicles) – While many groups and businesses have launched various campaigns to boycott Indiana as a result of a new law allowing gay discrimination based on religious belief, a national campaign has been launched going in the opposite direction: In instead of Out.

The National Coalition of Hoosier Expatriates (NCHE) has launched a campaign which it hopes will bring 1 Million people to Indianapolis during its Circle City IN Pride scheduled for June 5-13, 2015. Past attendance during Indianapolis’ gay pride celebration has topped 100,000. (Indiana is known as the Hoosier State and people from Indiana are called Hoosiers.)

GAYSWELCOMEAs part of this Million people campaign, national companies and local businesses — from airlines and car rental companies to hotels, from restaurants to retail stores — will be displaying a special placard on their storefronts, check-in counters, marquees and rental equipment to identify themselves as gay-friendly.

Only businesses that display the rainbow placard will be patronized by visiting gay and lesbian expatriates, their lovers, friends and straight allies.

In addition, all dollar bills that will be spent in Indianapolis by visiting pride contingents will be stamped with the rainbow flag as a way to demonstrate the power of the gay dollar.

The Adobo Chronicles also learned that Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express will be coming out with special credit cards that will have a photo of the Indiana State Capitol flying the rainbow flag.  People who use these special credit cards will get zero percent interest on purchases made within Indiana for the duration of Pride Week. (So don’t leave home without them.)

Watch out, Indiana. Gay Power has been unleashed!

HOW INDIANA WILL IMPLEMENT ITS NEW ANTI-GAY LAW

tumblr_loqx3bLiuO1qznqqvo1_r1_1280INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (The Adobo Chronicles) – Over loud objections from Indiana business leaders, GOP Governor Mike Pence has signed a new law that protects business owners who refuse service to gay and lesbian customers on religious grounds.

The law allows citizens of Indiana who are sued for discrimination to cite their religious beliefs as a defense.

A nagging question remains unanswered as the LGBT community and allies reacted angrily to the discriminatory legislation: how will businesses know who the gay customers are?

A fine-print provision of the new law mandates all commercial banks in the state to mark all currency withdrawn by gay men and women with the rainbow flag. Bank tellers will be required to ask suspicious-acting men and women if they are gay or lesbian.

As far as ATM machines are concerned, banks will now be asked to install a detection chip that would confirm the sexual orientation of the person withdrawing cash. It is a new technology that would scan the movement of a person’s fingers when entering his or her PIN.  Once confirmed, the ATM machine will spit out rainbow flag-stamped currency.

The “gay currency” is designed to glow in the dark.

Governor Pence said that this will take away the burden from discriminatory businesses of having to guess a customer’s sexual orientation.

You’ve got rainbow-stamped dollars? You are most certainly gay or lesbian!

PHILIPPINES: TWO MAYORS END STANDOFF IN MAKATI CITY

CaptureMAKATI CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Will the real mayor of Makati City please step forward?

Well, there’s actually two mayors right now – Incumbent Mayor Junjun Binay and Vice Mayor Romulo Peña, each claiming to be the legitimate head of the Philippines’ richest city.

It all started when the Philippine Ombudsman issued an order suspending Binay for six months in connection with the alleged overpricing of Makati City Hall Building II.

Soon after the order was served on Binay, Vice Mayor Peña was sworn into office as the acting mayor.

Binay claimed that he was still in charge of the city despite the Ombudsman’s order suspending him for six months. He said that the Court of Appeals granted his request for a temporary restraining order which had effectively stayed his suspension.

Not so, claimed the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales and Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, noting that the TRO was moot and academic because Peña had been sworn in as acting mayor on March 16 hours before the TRO was issued.

Since the suspension order was issued, Binay has been camping out in his office at the Makati City Hall, backed by supporters who were fed take out fried chicken and spaghetti (presumably from Jollibee).  Peña, who claims he is the acting mayor since he took oath when the suspension order was served on Binay, has been holding office at the old City Hall building nearby.

Finally, both “mayors” announced they have come to an agreement to end the week-long standoff.

“We have decided that both of us can be mayor,” Binay said. “We have agreed to divide Makati City into two jurisdictions — east and west of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA). EDSA is Metro Manila’s main thoroughfare that runs through many cities in the metropolis, including Makati.

I will be mayor of the East side and Peña will be mayor of the West side.”

All’s well that ends well.
