MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It was National Coming Out Day yesterday in the U.S. and other parts of the world.  So to celebrate, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte ‘outed’ U.S. ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg.  Duterte was even kind with his words, saying “What’s wrong if you are ‘gay?'”

Duterte made the comment in Malacañang after the oath-taking of his new appointees and the officers of the Leauge of Municipalities of the Philippines.

This was the second time that Duterte called Goldberg ‘gay.’ The first time was when the American envoy commented on Duterte’s  controversial remarks on the rape of an Australian missionary in 1989.

While Goldberg chose not to comment on this latest ‘outing’ by Duterte, many Filipino LGBTs took to their social media accounts to express disappointment over the president’s misinterpretation of National Coming Out Day.

“Of course, there’s nothing wrong with being gay; ” one netizen pointed out, “what is wrong is when you use the word in an offensive and derogatory way.”

Another said, “it is entirely up to an individual person to come out or not.”

Facing backlash from the “gay” comment, Duterte’s communications team issued an apology, saying, “Sorry, none of us here are gay so we didn’t really know what National Coming Out Day really meant.  We thought it was a day we could ‘out’ people.”

Quite an OUTlandish apology.

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Minutes after Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump posted a taped “apology” for what he said about women in 2005, he immediately called Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for advice.

Trump’s apology stemmed from an explosive audio tape released yesterday in which he said he bragged to TV host Billy Bush that he would forcibly kiss and grope women.

His 15-minute phone conversation with the controversial Philippine president focused on how he could come out of this latest controversy and still gain the trust and approval of the American voters.

Duterte has become world-famous because of his colorful language, joking about rape and catcalling women reporters. The former Davao City mayor had also used cuss words which were supposedly directed at the pope, President Obama, the United Nations and the European Union (EU).

“How do you do it,” Trump reportedly asked Duterte, “and still have a 91% approval rating by the Filipino people?”

Reliable sources told The Adobo Chronicles that Duterte advised Trump that “words alone don’t matter, actions do.”

Despite his colorful language and controversial statements, Duterte has been credited for significant positive changes in the Philippines since he assumed the presidency 100 days ago today.

Twitter to Philippines’ New Ambassador To The UN: Shape Up Or We’ll Pack You Up

Locsin

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – The social media network Twitter has a serious warning to newly-appointed Philippine ambassador to the United Nations, Teddy Boy Locsin: shape up or we’ll pack you up.

Locsin, former congressman and self-absorbed journalist has, in recent days, been using his Twitter account to mimic President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and paint himself as a fearless free speech advocate, capable of cussing and  defending evil elements like the Nazis.

Except that he totally  forgot about Twitter’s community policy: you cannot threaten anyone.

Well, that’s exactly what Locsin has been doing on his Twitter account.

Examples of his threatening tweets:

“I will remember you, you f*** face. Find this guy and make his life hell.”

“Yes, you f***ing shit, I get a hold of you and I will shove de Lima up your ass.”

(The second tweet above was considered by Twitter as more offensive than the first.)

So readers, if you are offended by Locsin’s tweets, not to worry — our dear UN ambassador will soon be Twitter history.
