Maria Ressa Changes Her Tune!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Convicted Rappler CEO and Nobel Laureate Maria Ressa is finally changing her tune and is now singing happy songs!

Although her online news blog Rappler has consistently referred to Bongbong Marcos as the “son of a dictator” during the last Philippine presidential campaign, Ressa seems to be warming up quickly to the current Malacañang occupant.

While she had stubbornly accused the (Rodrigo) Duterte government of weaponizing the law to curtail press freedom, she now says there is a “lifting of fear” under Marcos, even among journalists.

While she had described the Philippines as the worst war zone she’s ever been in, Ressa now sees a bright future for foreign and local investments in the country.

While she had previously proclaimed to the world that Democracy is dad in the Philippines, she now acknowledges that the court system actually works in the country.

If and when the Philippine Supreme Court decides to overturn her cyber libel conviction, will Ressa finally sing George Frideric Handel’s “Halleluja?”

But what if the high court upholds her conviction? Will she write a sequel to her book, “Standing Up To A Dictator?” Will she and Rappler continue to hold the line?

Hollywood Actors Paint One Nail For A Cause, But In The Philippines…

HOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles, Hollywood Bureau) – Hollywood actors and other celebrities are painting a nail on one finger as a way of expressing solidarity with victims of crime, violence or misfortune.

The Adobo Chronicles also noticed a similar trend in the Philippines, especially among gay men, so we sent out our investigative reporters to conduct random interviews among Filipino men with painted nails on a single finger.

It turns out the Philippine phenomenon is happening for a different reason: the retail price of nail polish remover has tremendously increased and many could no longer afford them. Men just leave their painted nails alone until the polish naturally fades on its own.

Moral of the story: Filipinos are trend setters or are quick to follow international trends, except in the case of painted nails.

Manny Pacquiao Sets Eye On Olympic Gold For The Wrong Reason!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – No boxer in history has won world titles in more weight classes than Manny Pacquiao. The Filipino legend has done it in eight divisions.

Now, the boxer-turned-senator, has set his eye on a gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics, albeit for the wrong reason.

Pacquiao’s goal is to reap the same (or more) financial benefits as weight lifter Hidilyn Diaz, the first Filipino to win an Olympic gold medal. Diaz reportedly received some P40 million in rewards as a result of her historical feat.

Paquiao sees the Paris Olympics as his ticket to avoiding possible bankruptcy resulting from his lavish lifestyle, excessive spending, pending law suits, and depleted coffers from his failed 2022 Philippine presidential election bid.

Regardless of Pacquiao’s intentions, a second Olympic gold medal for the Philippines will bring honor and prestige to the country.
