PHILIPPINES: COMEDIAN BILL COSBY’S WAY OUT OF ALLEGED RAPE CHARGES

MANILA, Philippines  (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – If it weren’t for the statute of limitations and American comedian Bill Cosby would be charged for alleged multiple rapes he committed, his only way out would be in the Philippines. By marrying his accusers.

Republic Act 8353 (The Anti-Rape Law of 1997), absolves the rapist from criminal liability on the condition that the offender marries the victim.

A provision in the law states:

“The subsequent valid marriage between the offended party shall extinguish the criminal action or the penalty imposed. In case it is the legal husband who is the offender, the subsequent forgiveness by the wife as the offended party shall extinguish the criminal action or the penalty: Provided, that the crime shall not be extinguished or the penalty shall not be abated if the marriage is void ab initio.”

So, Cosby would be free of rape charges by moving to the Philippines.

But not so fast.

Cosby cannot marry all his accusers. Polygamy is not legal in the Philippines.  In fact, it is one of the grounds for the exclusion of foreigners in the coutry’s immigration law.

Another big hurdle? Divorce is not legal in the Philippines either. The country is the only one remaining in the world, besides The Vatican, where divorce is not allowed.

So, if charged, Cosby will have to find another way out.   .

MISS UNIVERSE IS FOR SALE!

MIAMI, Florida (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Miss Universe is up for sale! No, not Paulina Vega, the reigning title holder from Colombia, but Miss Universe the pageant.

Republican presidential candidate and real estate mogul Donald Trump told reporters he was putting his 49% stake in the pageant on the market.

Trump has been the face of Miss Universe for decades — well, hiding behind the beautiful faces of the pageant contestants and winners, that is. As owner of the Miss Universe Organization, he pretty much dictated how, where and when the pageants were to take place. He also singularly made that decision years ago to allow a transgender contestant to compete for the Miss Canada-Universe pageant.

Alas, things continue to go downhill for Miss Universe (and Miss USA which Trump also owns), since he made those disparaging remarks against Mexicans during the launch of his presidential bid. NBC Universal and Univision both cut their ties to Trump and countries like Mexico and Panama have dropped out of the international pageant, with other Latin countries expected to do the same.

So what’s next for Miss Universe? Will any one step up to buy out Trump?

It’s just a rumor, but keep an eye on who will succeed Trump as owner. The likes of billionaires Carlos Slim of Mexico (the second richest man next to Bill Gates) and Henry Sy, the richest man in the Philippines.

Both Mexico and the Philippines love beauty pageants, so that increases the odds of a Mexican or a Filipino owning Miss Universe.

U.S. TO IMPORT FACEKINIS FROM CHINA

imageWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles® )  – It’s summertime and that means millions of Americans will be heading down to the beach to beat the warm temperatures. But this is also causing great alarm among U.S. health officials because of the fact that skin cancer, mostly from sun exposure, is the most common of all cancers. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of their lifetime.

But not to worry.  The U.S. has placed an order of 50 crates of ‘facekinis’ expected to arrive from China in time for peak summer season.  The government will distribute the crates equally among the 50 states.

Facekinis are face masks that have become popular among middle-aged women in China who enjoy going to the beach on a regular basis.  The mask covers the entire head and face except for small openings for the eyes, nose and mouth. It is considered more durable, economical and effective than sunscreens and other protective creams.

A word of caution, however: if wearing the facekini, make sure to still apply sunscreen around your eyes, and on your nose and lips, otherwise you will end up looking like Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer or having black eyes and lips like Edward Scissorhands.

Also, Americans are being warned about fake facekinis that are manufactured by fly-by-night entrepreneurs. In other words, Fakekinis.
