LONDON, United Kingdom (The Adobo Chronicles, Berlin Bureau) – As she celebrated her 90th birthday, Queen Elizabeth had a message to Great Britain’s LGBT community: don’t travel to the U.S.A.

The gay-friendly queen mother was reportedly pissed at the growing anti-LGBT sentiment in America, particularly in two states which recently passed discriminatory legislation against those who pledge allegiance to the rainbow flag.

But it was not only the Royal Palace that cautioned lesbian, gay, bisexual and transagender citizens about travel to America.  The British Foreign Office also issued — for the first time — a travel advisory specifically addressed to the LGBT community. It warned travelers to be aware of controversial new laws in North Carolina and Mississippi before visiting the United States.

imageAlthough the advisory was directed at North Carolina and Mississippi, organizers of Pride celebrations across the U.S. — from  San Francisco to New York — are weary that there will be less attendance in their respective celeberations this June.

Moral of the story: you can piss off the Prime Minister, but you’d better not piss off the Queen!

Donald Trump’s Response To Mayor Rod Duterte: ‘As President, I Will Deport All Filipinos’

imageMIAMI, Florida (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Philippine presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte threatened to sever ties with the United States once he is elected on May 9 this year, and U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump is thanking him for it.

Duterte made the threat after U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg criticized the mayor for comments in a viral video in which he said he should have been first in line in the serial rape of murdered Australian missionary Jacqueline Hamill. Duterte made the same threat to Australia whose ambassador also condemned the mayor’s comments.

Upon learning of Duterte’s threat, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Trump thanked Duterte for making his job as president much easier.

Trump has consistently said in his campaign that as president he will deport all undocumented immigrants living in the U.S.

The real estate mogul said he will not only deport TNTs (the Filipino term for undocumented immigrants), but also revoke the naturalization papers of Filipino Americans.

Trump, however, said that he is open to U.S.-based Filipinos to apply for political asylym if they can prove that going back to the Philippines will subject them to persecution under a Duterte administration.

Latest census figures show that there are about 4 Million Filipinos now living in the United States.

‘Bad Luck’ Update For Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport: Shattered Glass And Collapsed Ceiling

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – As far as Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Jose Angel Honrado is concerned, all the unfortunate things that have happened at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) can be blamed on “bad luck.”

Past “unfortunate” events include collapsed ceilings, flooding during a heavy rainstorm, airconditioning units inoperable, the laglag bala extortion scheme, disappearing luggage, brownouts, etc.

Well, Honrado is happy to announce that  yet another incident at NAIA — this time in Terminal 1 — just proves his point.  He feels vindicated.

A glass partition at the pre-departure lounge near Gate 10 shattered at around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, just after passengers had passed. No one was injured.

Renz Caldejon of the airport’s operations division, who is in charge of the aerobridges, claimed that two airplanes at gates nine and 11 started their engines at the same time, causing the glass partition to vibrate and shatter.

At around 10 a.m. yesterday, sales clerks from the Duty Free Shop’s perfume section got a fright when part of the ceiling, made of gypsum board, collapsed.

A black plastic bag, left behind by workers when the ceiling was being renovated, fell through the hole.

According to a sales clerk, water dripping from the air conditioning system weakened the ceiling and caused it to collapse.

At least, we now know that Honrado was not lying about the “bad luck.”
