VIENTIANE, Laos (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It finally happened on Wednesday night — the much-anticipated meeting between U.S. President Barack Obama and Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

The meeting between the two heads of state was cancelled twice, prompted by Duterte’s colorful language supposedly aimed at Obama.

The first meeting was cancelled by The White House soon after Duterte made the expletive-filled statement.  A second meeting was supposed to happen at the state dinner hosted by the Laotion prime minister in honor of the ASEAN summit participating heads of state.  Duterte was supposed to sit next to Obama on one side, and UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon on the other.  That, too, was cancelled.

But in the holding room prior to the state dinner, Obama and Duterte were the last to leave for the banquet.

Here is a transcript of their conversation:

Obama: Did you bring me a barong tagalog?

Duterte:  I did.  I left it at your hotel’s front desk.  Thank you for the suit and tie you gave me.

Obama: Oh, you’re most welcome. You looked dashing!

Duterte:  I would like to apolo….

Obama: Don’t worry about it.  I wasn’t offended. I know you’re a very colorful guy.  The news media is making such a big deal out of this.

Duterte:  Those son-of-a-bitches!

Obama: Now, now…

Duterte: I’m sorry, Mr. President

Obama: I’ve heard a lot about your word war with Senator Leila de Lima…

Duterte: That whore!

Obama:  Meeting’s over.  Time for dinner!

Duterte: Put*ng ina naman.

Obama: What did you just say?

Duterte:  I said, “Thanks for this brief opportunity!”

Obama: Oh, okay.  You’re welcome!

L-R: Barack Obama, Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Ban Ki Moon

VIENTIANE, Laos (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – After all that fuss and media frenzy about U.S. President Barack Obama canceling his scheduled meeting with Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the two leaders will, after all, meet — intimately.

The meeting at the ASEAN Summit was cancelled after Duterte uttered some unflattering rhetoric about the American president.  Many media outlets reported that Duterte cursed Obama, supposedly calling him “Son of a whore.”

But all’s well that ends well.

At a state dinner hosted by the Loatian prime minister, Duterte will be seated next to Obama.  And what’s more on  Duterte’s other side will be UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon.

When contacted by The Adobo Chronicles, presidential spokesperson Martin Andanar said that Duterte promised to be prim and proper throughout the state dinner — no cussing, no insults.

UPDATE: The uncancelled meeting between Obama and Duterte was again cancelled. Duterte was not seated next to Obama after all.

News Media Outlets Confirm: Philippine President Is A Cannibal

image.jpegVIENTIANE, Laos (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The international news media couldn’t be more happy with lots of juicy reports on statements made by Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte.

It was just a couple days ago when news headlines proclaimed that Duterte had called U.S. President Barack Obama “son of a whore.”  The news reports prompted Obama to cancel his scheduled meeting with Duterte in Laos.

Now, an even juicer news story about Duterte is grabbing headlines.  The Philippine president is a confirmed cannibal.

While attending the ASEAN Summit, Duterte has pledged to personally deal with a group of Islamist militants by publicly eating them alive.

“They will pay. When the time comes, I will eat you in front of people,” Duterte said while addressing an audience in Laos.

The statement comes in response to a bombing incident that took place last week at a crowded market in Duterte’s hometown of Davao City, killing 14 people and injuring scores of others. The government blamed Islamic State-linked militant group Abu Sayyaf for the blast.

Upon reading the news headlines, President Obama said he was glad he cancelled his meeting with Duterte.  “I could have been eaten alive,” he said.
