MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Recent news photos of tarpaulin banners hung in parts of Metro Manila declaring the Philippines as a province of China have hit home for the Aquinos — former President NoyNoy, self-proclaimed Queen of Media Kris and Opposition Senator Bam.
The prospect of the Philippines becoming part of China greatly bothers them, fearing that they will lose all their privileges and stature if and when that happens.
So the three Aquinos have decided to be proactive and prepare for that eventuality.
Today, they all filed a petition to legally change their surname from Aquino to Cojuangco (the late President Cory Aquino’s maiden name). They believe that being Cojuancos (of Chinese in origin) would ensure that they continue to be privileged citizens once the Philippines really becomes a province of China.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manioa Bureau) – Filipinos take their beauty pageants very seriously — especially women who belong to the Hashtag Babae Ako (#BabaeAko) movement, like Mae Paner, a.k.a. Juana Change.
Paner took to her Twitter account to condemn, in no uncertain terms, the selection of Angela Ponce as Spain’s representative to this year’s Miss Universe Pageant. The new Miss Universe-Spain made history as the first transgender woman to join the popular international beauty pageant.
Paner said that allowing a contestant who is not “a natural-born” woman is a threat to womanhood and is an insult to the #BabaeAko movement.
Paner told The Adobo Chronicles that while she never tried joining a beauty contest, she still feels that allowing transgender contestants significantly reduces the chances of natural-born women to fulfill their lifelong dream of wearing the coveted crown of Miss Universe.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The key figures behind the Hashtag Babae Ako (#BabaeAko) movement have sent an urgent petition to the Miss Universe Organization protesting the selection of a transgender woman as the new Miss Spain.
Angela Ponce, a trans woman, was selected to represent Spain in this year’s Miss Universe Pageant.
In their petition, the Filipina women claimed that allowing a transgender woman to compete with natural-born women is an affront to their dignity and that of all women of the world. “Can you imagine if women joined the Mr. Universe competition,” they asked.
Among those who signed the petition were Maria Lourdes Sereno, Mae Paner, a.k.a. Juana Change, journlist Inday Varona, Rappler CEO Maria Ressa and blogger Raissa Robles.
